This was in 2008, We had 6 inches of this white stuff then. That's Elephant Mountain, My relatives had a whole foot of the stuff.

Nice. I've never seen a picture of snow in the desert like that.

I was told there was snow from the CA/NV border, all the way to Cajon Pass, oh and the Summit Restaurant there? It has been burned to the ground in the current Cajon Pass fire, there is now only smoking rubble there now.
Here's a pic of a previous Cajon Pass fire...

And the present Cajon Pass fire...

The Cajon Pass or Blue Cut fire, has burned just over 31,000 acres, and is currently 4% contained.

@ Rob Smith: Thanks.

Porridge?

I knew someone was scurrying around late night.

Scratching, being all noisey like and nibbling on my bits.

Finally caught a picture of the little scallywag:

I think I have a new pet...

I'll just have to keep counting my fingers each morning.

Hello all and thanks for sharing all the wonderful pictures.

As for contest pictures, here's one I currently have entered in a local contest sponsored by, of all places, my Obamacare health insurance company.

It was taken with my trusty 2nd generation, 8 meg Canon Rebelxt in action mode with full zoom on a 300mm lens from just a few feet away of the hummingbird feeder off my front porch back in June.

Warning! Shill for votes to try to win follows:
The winner will be determined by popular vote this week. If I may be so bold as to ask for my fellow Setizens to help me try to win by going to http://www.commongroundhealthcare.org/photocontest/and voting for my pic each day for the next week that would be fantastic.

The pic is titled "Hummingbird in Burlington" (as in Burlington, WI USA) and is currently in 3rd place. Voting is limited to once per day.

My apologies if my request is out of line but as my grandpa taught me: "You won't know if you don't ask"

Very nicely done, and you know it makes me consider getting a hummingbird feeder. We had seed feeders for the "regular" birds when I was a kid, but hummingbirds would be interesting to have around here.

Having just returned from a quick visit to the Isle of Wight, my soon to be temporary new home(don't ask)

I thought I would post a few pics I took on my regular daily walk.

Sea and sky, always look good in my opinion

The Isle of Wright, sitting right on the Solent gets a lot of shipping passing by heading to and from Southampton. Yesterday was the restored fishing smack Excelsior

This morning as I was catching an early ferry home, I went for an early walk and caught the first ferry arriving from the mainland under a pre-dawn sky.

I walked down to the old fort at the end of the road and rounding the corner saw a cloudy sunrise over Yarmouth, with the old fort pier in the foreground.

It was pretty spectacular, here a closer view.

You can't really see sunrises like that in Croydon, too built up.

Another thing I don't see on my walks around Croydon (even in the parks) are these.

I also found that rabbits are not the easiest to get good pictures of in the early morning light on a long zoom!! I took quite a few pics but these were the only two to come out.

I am hoping for enough free time to visit one or two of the other photogenic places on the Island. Time will tell.

Love the sunsets. Inspired me to go ahead and post one of my favorite sunset pictures. This Morro Rock taken about 6 pm from the beach Nort of the rock. Natural color, no Photoshop.

And Angela just for you, my bunny (nickname for my daughter since she was 1) feeding the squirrels.

I have hand fed them, but I was always worried about my nuts. (Peanuts)

That photo of Morro Rock is amazing!!! My father-in-law's favorite place in California is Morro Bay. He makes a pilgrimage there every time my in-laws visit California.

The picture of Bunny feeding the squirrel is lovely! Thank you for sharing that beautiful family photo.

One of "my" squirrels is almost that friendly. He comes up to the back door and waits for me to open it and toss him a few peanuts. He could probably be hand-trained, but frankly, I'm the one holding back on that. I've done the pre-rabies vaccination series and I'm up to date on my boosters, so that's not my primary worry. Squirrels have vermin, carry the plague and can be a pound of h*ll when they get upset, so I'm not really anxious to get too close.

That is a wild squirrel at the parking overlooking the elephant seals in San Simeon. She is a wildlife magnet.

A squirrel story:

I used to live in a second floor apartment with a balcony in Maryland. There
was grass in front of the building, then a parking lot, then more grass. The
squirrels got so used to me feeding them that they'd come when I called. I
used to love freaking people out. I'd see a squirrel across the parking lot
looking through the grass and I'd yell from my balcony, "Yo squirrel!" He'd
look up at me. I'd yell, "You want some peanuts?" and he'd come running
across the parking lot and stand under the balcony as I threw peanuts to him
(or her - who knew?).

When I lived in Pacific Grove, California, I found the squirrels along the
beach to be very friendly. They'd climb up on you to get peanuts. I loved it!

A California squirrel climbs up on my knee. I'm sitting cross-legged.
