You asked about a single box. Looks like the ION has been discontinued. ION VHS 2
I have a digitizing card in my computer. I also have an old "ATI all in one" that will convert TV signal into digital. Pay the postage and you can have it. I was going to list it on ebay but really low value. The best solution is probably the ElGato shown in the CNet article. My son has one that he uses.

So many ideas, I need to sleep on it all. I think actually using my current VCR with it's built-in DVD recorder may be the best way for me. I'll dub my tapes onto DVD, and then use some sort of software like the WinX DVD ripper to transfer those to a hard drive.

As for Funai, they may be just trying to scare people like me into paying top dollar for the "last" machine made.

I have replaced almost all of the VHS tapes with DVD. So I had no need to keep the VHS tapes.
