Hello all! Just setup a new system with a gigabyte MB, an Athlon X4 845 and Windows7. Odd thing is that no matter what version of Boinc I install, it fails to run. I get a Boinc error that says Boinc client has stopped working and do I want to search for a solution of close the program. Even though I choose close the program, it continues to send me the error message until I actually close the program via the programs menu. Any ideas why it won't run???? Thanks! Allen |

chipset, which graphics drivers installed ? "AIO Runtimes" often helped a lot to get this BOINC thing running... |

chipset, which graphics drivers installed ? Chipset is AMD A68H and it's a FM2+ MB. Graphics is an Zotac GTX 650Ti. I let windows install the drivers. It's just the standard VGA adapter driver. Since it never even asks for login info, I doubt that it has anything to do with the graphics driver though. |

Might try to copy and post the startup messages from Boinc. Could have some clues there. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I let windows install the drivers AFAIK Windoz Nvidia drivers don't support cuda. Go to the Nvidia site to get your video driver. |

Might try to copy and post the startup messages from Boinc. There really aren't any, it just continually says that it is retrieving current status and I immediately get the error. |

Did you do a "Clean" install of the graphics drivers, or just let the installer run. Just running the installer without selecting to do a clean install often leaves a large legacy of dross that prevents the new driver from operating correctly. Odd thing is that no matter what version of Boinc I install, it fails to run. Win7 has all it's Service packs & updates? Anti virus programme might be tacking exception to BOINC and killing it's processes? Did you select the option to "Allow all users on this computer to control NBOINC?" Grant Darwin NT |

When you did the install of Win7 did you let Windows do all the driver installs for your MB accessories? If not then grab the disc that came with your MB and install the drivers and utils that are on the disc. You may find that although Windows shows that all devices are installed and running they may not be 100% and using the drivers supplied by the manufacturer may fix the issue. After doing that I would uninstall your Nvidia drivers and do a clean install of them again and then try Boinc installation after that. After doing that I would uninstall your Nvidia drivers and do a clean install of them again and then try Boinc installation after that. It has been mentioned repeatedly that when removing graphics drivers, it should be done using DDU (secondary link).  They have threads tailored specifically to AMD or nVidia drivers. |

I have found that I can get Boinc 7.0.64 to load but when I try newer versions they fail to make a connection. I've read everyone's suggestions and I believe that it may be the graphics drivers since they are a bit on the old side. I will upgrade them and then see what happens and get back here to let you all know. Thanks!! |

Yes Bob, it was. I was running an old version of Boinc on it at that time and when I upgraded to the newer version/s it would not or could not contact seti. Now I have reverted back to the old version and it is running again. I would like to update though, to the new version of Boinc, but I don't yet know how. Just before reading your post, I read another post and it gave me an idea as to what may have happened. You see, I was running this same hard drive in another system that was running 32 bit Vista, but I upgraded the system to Windows 7 64 bit. While you would think that everything on the drive would have been scrubbed when I loaded Win7, who really knows for sure. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Edit: BTW, windows update did nothing for the problem. Thanks! |

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? The only thing that comes to mind would be to re-download the new BOINC version, and make sure you've got the right one (32 or 64bit). http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php EDIT- the only way to upgrade from a 32 to 64bit OS is a clean installation. EDIT- Problem Event Name: BEX64 gives a few hits, and several of them relate to AV programmes and 3rd party programmes that monitor the system & interfere with the startup of the installer. The most useful link I've been able to find concerning "Problem Event Name:BEX64" issues. What does event BEX64 mean? There are some references that BEX stands for "Buffer Overflow Exception" and is somehow related to Data Execution Prevention. ... Indicates a buffer overflow (/GS) or DEP exception (BEX64 indicates a buffer overflow (/GS) or DEP exception on 64-bit versions of Windows) I translate that to a couple of programmes interfering with each other, and in this case the BOINC installer comes off second best. Found another site, and there the issue relates to a programme having issues with extremely long file names on some folders. Remove the folder with the extremely long file name & no more BEX64 errors. Fixing BEX64 error nvcplui.exe BEX64 NVcplui.exe and nvgames.dll error in manage 3d settings In process monitor, it showed that the nvcplui.exe was for some reason interacting with these long named folders/directories. Many programs are not designed to recognize or handle long names like the above example and usually will crash. Sure enough that was the problem. I moved all my folders and personal stuff off the desktop and to a different partition (in this case D drive). I then relaunched the application and the manage 3d settings worked perfectly. To test if this was the problem, I put back the items I had moved off the desktop and launched the application again and sure enough it crashed at the manage3d settings. Grant Darwin NT |
