I am rapidly getting to the point where I won't be able to travel away from home without assistance. My current transportation is a car with a powerchair rack on the back. Currently I am still able to load the chair, transfer to a four wheel walker and roll to the driver's side door, transfer into the car and then manhandle the walker into the back seat area. Doing this three or four times within the span of a couple of hours has become almost impossible. I've been looking for a handicapped equipped van but those that are old enough and therefore cheap enough for me to afford seem to be virtually nonexistent. Medicare doesn't consider a vehicle as a necessity and they will not assist in acquiring one. I have discovered that at a minimum a properly equipped and reasonably reliable minivan will cost me $10,000. I have seen where others have created a go fund me account seeking funds for personal needs and even though I am repulsed by the idea of begging for money I don't see many options in front of me other than becoming a shut in. So is this a proper use of the go fund me program or not. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This is DEFINITELY a proper use of the GoFundMe program. Please post a link to your GoFundMe Page here in this Thread so that others here can donate, (anonymously, if they choose), to it. I wish you success. God bless and good luck. :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

DEFINITELY a proper use of the GoFundMe program Bob. It's not begging when you have a genuine need. :-) |

Good luck Bob, I need to get the newer drivers seat installed to replace a broken one that needs to be installed before the current seat breaks fully, I tried gofundMe for that, I got nothing. So I have to wait until August or maybe October to do this... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Activity has slowed down but I am happy with the results so far. Best response so far has been from members of my high school graduating class. 50th anniversary is next year and I guess they want me to come. It's up to $865. Nowhere near what I need to get even a 15 year old van but every bit helps. That amount will at least cover the cost of the tag tax and registration. I want to thank those of you in here who made a donation. I really do appreciate your generosity. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. Well, the fund raising stalled at $1,000.00. Considering my limited exposure in Facebook I think that wasn't bad. I bought a 1999 Plymouth Voyager van that is in very good shape, I hope. Thanks to those of you who made a contribution. Here's a picture. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. The sense of refound freedom having this vehicle offers is very refreshing. Now I am back to where I can go places totally on my own. Now I hope I will have enough money to put gas in the thing. As a pensioner I look every time before fill up now. V Lowest Regular Gas Prices in the Last 24 hours for your area. V http://www.floridastategasprices.com/De_Land/index.aspx I also do not trust the gas pumps. Most states calibrate the gas pumps with 5 Gallon measure can. So pump only in 5 gallon increments, 5, 10, 15, 20 and so on. We have been doing this for years now. When I was tracking fuel I found we saved about $200 a year. As a pensioner now I get buy on 5 to 10 gallons a month in a '97 Subaru Outback. Every trip as multiple errands. A joy ride has an errand or two in it. I can be pretty thrifty when I put my mind to it. That rig will have a large tank I would think. Another economy trick is to keep tank full. If you can fill up all way and then refill when 5 gallons have been used. The fuller the tank the better the shelf life/quality of your gasoline. And you have an almost full tank in case of an emergency/evacuation. ... ... |
