I've just come across this,
KPMG - ITA: EU import duties on a wide range of electronic products eliminated as of July 1, 2016

Currently, consumer and professional electronic products are usually subject to customs duties upon import into the EU and other jurisdictions. A new WTO (World Trade Organization) trade agreement on Information Technology – the Information Technology Agreement (ITA) – has recently been signed and is expected to enter into force on July 1, 2016. The ITA eliminates import duties on a wide range of electronic products imported into the EU and other markets (e.g. US, China and Switzerland).

The product list for which EU import duties will be eliminated includes:

Microphones, headphones, earphones, speakers, amplifiers, and their component parts
MP3/MP4 players, radio tuners, car stereos, and their component parts
DVD, Blu-ray, and HD players and recorders, and their component parts
Television cameras, and video cameras, and their component parts
e-readers
Medical equipment: sophisticated medical equipment such as scanners, machines for magnetic resonance imaging, tomography or dental care and ophthalmology
Video games and consoles
Multi-component integrated circuits (MCOs)
Aerials and aerial reflectors
Telecommunication satellites, and their component parts
Automotive camera modules
Thermometers and pyrometers
Instruments for aeronautical and space navigation

Unfortunately it does not include Computers or their components.

When will $399 not equated to £399.
Exchange rate at time of post 1 British Pound equals 1.43 US Dollar

I have to ask why this hasn't been headline news, the article is dated 6th April.

Strange...
Has the EU different agreements than other WTO countries?
A WTO agreement is helping push the information technology revolution forward. Beginning in 2000, most of the world trade in information technology products (worth $680 billion last year for office and telecom equipment, a large part of which are IT products) will be completely free of tariffs under the WTO Information Technology Agreement (ITA), which has been reducing customs duties on IT products such as computers and telecom equipment since 1997, and benefiting offices and consumers across the globe through lower prices.

Would be interesting to know, Sirius, what this same drive costs in the
other EU member countries.
