I am replacing one of my crunchers with another machine (my new 32 core Big32). I tried to release all of my 300 tasks on KeplerBox by doing a project reset of SETI. This dumped all my tasks (I see 0 tasks on it now when I bring it up with no networking to prevent new tasks being downloaded). Yet, under my account, view computers, it says 300 tasks still in progress. Is that just a fluke of BOINC, or are my wingmen screwed until those tasks time out? |

A lesson learned the hard way :-( There is one way of moving a machine from one disk to another, but it may not have worked in your case. Suspend all projects Copy the "old" BOINC data folder onto a usb drive Install BOINC on our new machine but do not let it run Copy the BOINC data folder from the USB drive over the data folder on the "new" machine. Restart BOINC on the new machine, it may work, but if the changes between "old" and "new" are considered by BOINC to be sufficiently significant it probably won't. The use of rabbits feet, crossed fingers etc. is probably an aid, but no guarantee... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

It is worth noting that your "new" machine now has a full payload of 300 tasks in progress, so there is no point in trying to recuse those orphaned tasks, they will time out and be resent to other users. From what I understand, if it's an option and time allows, just set it to NNT and let them process out, and when you are done, shuterdown and move to the next computer. If you'd like to keep the same machine number, you can try following Robs advice after they have all crunched and reported, and that way best case your machine lives on, worst case, you have to create a new ID. |

A lesson learned the hard way :-( We advise a slightly different sequence. Suspend all projects Copy the "old" BOINC data folder onto a usb drive Copy the BOINC data folder from the USB drive over the data folder on the "new" machine. Install BOINC on our new machine Start BOINC on the new machine. Like the machine I'm typing on: 13-Jan-2016 20:45:28 [---] Starting BOINC client version 7.6.22 for windows_x86_64 13-Jan-2016 20:45:28 [---] log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task, cpu_sched, sched_op_debug 13-Jan-2016 20:45:28 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.45.0 OpenSSL/1.0.2d zlib/1.2.8 13-Jan-2016 20:45:28 [---] Data directory: D:\BOINCdata 13-Jan-2016 20:45:28 [---] Running under account Richard Haselgrove 13-Jan-2016 20:45:29 [---] Version change (6.12.34 -> 7.6.22) 13-Jan-2016 20:45:29 [---] Platform changed from windows_intelx86 to windows_x86_64 13-Jan-2016 20:45:29 [---] Processor: 4 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz [Family 6 Model 60 Stepping 3] 13-Jan-2016 20:45:29 [---] Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 fma cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 movebe popcnt aes f16c rdrandsyscall nx lm avx avx2 vmx smx tm2 pbe fsgsbase bmi1 smep bmi2 13-Jan-2016 20:45:29 [---] OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Professional x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00) The old Win XP/Q6600 died over Christmas, this was the first run with the new i5. Thanks all for your help. Too bad there's no way of fixing it now. I didn't care about the new machine having a different number, but I STILL screwed up. Does that fit me for working on the next (first?) revision of you-know-what? |
