An EgyptAir flight traveling to Cairo from Paris disappeared from radar with 66 passengers and crew members on board, the airline confirmed Thursday morning.

Ihab Raslan, a spokesman for the Egyptian civil aviation agency, told SkyNews Arabia that the Airbus A320 had likely crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.

Egyptian armed forces were searching for the plane, which was carrying 56 passengers, including one child and two babies, and 10 crew. The pilot had 6,275 flight hours, while the co-pilot had 2,766 flight hours. Earlier, the airline said 69 people were on board.

EgyptAir said on Twitter that the flight was at its cruising altitude of 37,000 feet when it disappeared at 2:45 a.m. Cairo time (8:45 p.m. EDT). The airline said the plane was approximately 10 miles inside Egyptian airspace.

3 air marshals on board and terrorism?

Did they have specific info on this flight? Why 3? Don't they usually work alone?

EgyptAir Flight Data Shows Smoke Detected in Bathroom Before Crash: Report

The report includes the plane-to-ground messages sent in the final minutes of the flight:

00:26Z 2600 SMOKE LAVATORY SMOKE

00:27Z 2600 AVIONICS SMOKE

00:28Z 561100 R FIXED WINDOW SENSOR

00:29Z 2200 AUTO FLT FCU 2 FAULT

00:29Z 2700 F/CTL SEC 3 FAULT

The information would suggest the possibility of smoke or a fire in close proximity to the electronics and equipment bay of the Airbus below the floor of the cockpit.

The timestamps refer to "Zulu" time -- or Greenwich Mean Time. Thus, the information of smoke in the lavatory was sent at 12:26 a.m. GMT, which corresponds to 2:26 a.m. local time of the flight -- approximately 10 minutes before the flight fell off radar.

NTSB, invited to join investigation.

A case of profits above safety?

How old was the airframe?
How often was it serviced?
Was maintenance/upgrades/repairs done to manufacturer/safety regulations?

Trump on MS804, 19th May
Looks like yet another terrorist attack. Airplane departed from Paris. When will we get tough, smart and vigilant? Great hate and sickness!

Well before anybody knew how it happened.

Well before anybody knew how it happened.

Don't bash Trump for that statement.
Both the Russian and Egyptian governments had also made statements shortly after the event that they thought the odds of it being a terrorist attack were greater than it being a mechanical failure.
They may indeed, all have been wrong.

And you are wrong to take a swipe at Trump for his similar thoughts.

Yes, back on subject, I asked 3 questions, only 1 got answered?

"For a fire, that's a very short period of time. For an explosive event, like a bomb, that's a very long period of time," he says.

"It's got me and many other experts scratching their heads. There is an answer, but it's not clear yet."

"It's shockingly regular, and along with drones, it's the only part of aviation that's getting more dangerous," Capt Cox says.

Fires are a growing problem

I don't think the plane was downed because of batteries the passengers boarded with .
The Avionics Bay sounds like the flight controls , sabotage ???

A new form of Terrorism ???

We are Talking Egypt Air not Qantas and departing from Egypt !!!

It's been on the BBC about smoke being reported before they lost radar contact with the plane , maybe they haven't sorted out the lithium battery problem from a few years back like they believed they had .

Someone needs a lesson in flags. It applies to cruise ships too.

If you had checked, you would have found there has not been any suggestion EgyptAir, are failing due to servicing etc. since 2010.
