Light jelly makes a tasty, sweet and satisfying snack. 1 sachet makes 500 ml bowl of jelly and if I eat it all it's only 68 calories. If you can find one similar to the Aussie stuff it could be good for you. http://www.aeroplanejelly.com.au/our-products/jelly-lite/lite-raspberry

We call that either Jell-O (brand name) or gelatin. We have sugar-free versions
here. Don't you?

When I was a child we used to pour a little milk over our Jell-O.

Yes we do, did you look at the link?

I did, but not closely enough, I guess.

Jelly is something we put on our toast or on a sandwich with peanut butter.

Thats why I posted the link so people over the pond could see a picture of what I was talking about. We call the stuff you put on toast jam and marmalade depending whats in it.

There is a difference in terms as to what we call stuff. Thanks for the link. Odd flavores in that line up.

The orange/mango and raspberry flavours are nice but the lime flavour is a bit tangy. The point is though that a big bowl of rubbery jelly is very satisfying comfort food and 300 calories less than an 100 gram slice of white bread.

I see that the packages say "Low Sugar." Is there real sugar or just the
artificial sweeteners? Are you allowed to call artificial sweeteners "sugar"?

They have artifical sweetener so the saches are really small. Just a bit bigger than a teabag. The regular jelly packets are about the size of a can of sardines. The extra bulk is all sugar. No you don't call artifical sweeteners sugar but you substitute them for sugar. The only one I've tried is stevia in tea and coffee. It tastes rank in my opinion, especially in a short black coffee.

Each and every one of the artificial sweeteners is an acquired taste, like root beer. Also you need to be very careful how much you use. Some are 100's of times sweeter and too much really tastes horrible. Also some leave an aftertaste and that makes you want to eat something to get it off and that is a bad thing!

Then there is the anecdotal evidence that some persons have reactions to some of them. Look those up yourself and make your decision. I just know my body does not like NutraSweet and it complains if I have a bunch. YMMV.

I like Stevia, (liquid form), but I use it sparingly. A couple drops in coffee does the job for me. I use it in my cooking as well where the recipe calls for sugar, as well. :-)

My doctor told me stevia was the least of the artificial-sweetener evils, so
I tried it. I can't stand it. I'm back to saccharine.

I haven't received my NutriSystem food yet. According to FedEx the dry food
will arrive Tuesday and the frozen food will arrive on Wednesday. Meanwhile
I have made another batch of breakfast eggs. Did I tell you about the eggs?
I made a bunch of scrambled eggs (18 eggs) with bacon bits, onion, and
spinach. I put individual portions in sealable bowls and put them in the
freezer. Oh, I sprinkled cheese on the top before I put them away. Last time
I used ham instead of bacon, and I fried everything in butter instead of the
bacon grease.

Meanwhile I've been pricking my finger and doing well with my glucose count.

Does anyone have any recipes for one-dish meals? I think that's what they're
called. And what are you all doing for snacks? Are any of you eating something
at bedtime to keep your morning glucose level down?

Veggies make a good snack. My favorite is celery and peanut butter.
As for sweeteners, try truvia, it's made from stevia but has a much better taste, it that does not work then try Splenda, Splenda is made from sugar.
I agree that stevia is the best solution but like you I dislike it. However Truvia is not bad.

I got some of my NutriSystem food today. My first action was to look at the
carb count on some of them. To me they look very high. That could just be because
I'm new at this. I don't remember off the top of my head what the carb counts were
and I don't feel like going to check, but what I do recall, and probably the more
important thing, is that most of the carbs are sugar, at least in the "breakfast"
and "snack" items.

The frozen items, which will complete my months-worth of food, will arrive
Saturday.

I'll talk more about these as I consume them.

Perhaps I used too much stevia when I tried it. I usually use two packets of
saccharine in my mug of coffee, so I used two packets of stevia. Could that
have been too much? Perhaps I'll try again with only one packet.

Probably as a result of my diabetes, I have been diagnosed with a
swollen retina. This causes me to see straight lines with a slight
curve in them. I will have to have eye surgery, which will most
likely not be nearly as serious as it sounds. And I'm not worried.

It's just my left eye.

I have caught a cold. It wasn't easy as I had to leave my home to do it.
But once I was out, it wasn't as elusive as I'd thought. In fact, I didn't
have to struggle at all to catch the little b@st@rd.

Over the last several years I've not been able to catch any colds and was
afraid my hunting skills had diminished by my not using them. But it turns
out I'm still able. Imagine my joy.

:-(
