Can someone post an image of what a true signal would look like? I saw the examples on the SETI site but they were not that helpful. In the waterfall graohic are you looking to see a large number of high power spikes or what? |

The simple answer is "much the same as any other", but very different, it hasn't come from Earth, it hasn't come from any known natural phenomenon, it is repeated over a long period of time. We only do the first part of a screening process - sort out the potential sources of interest from the mountains of dross. Once this has been done a correlation exercise has to be done to get rid of more of the dross, and then there is a detailed survey of the remaining sources, and the locations in the sky. I just joined today, a little late perhaps, but I feel supremely confident that I will find the aliens. I am still unsure of what exactly it would look like should there be an instance. What would be different than any other background noise? |

Hello Warp9, Here's an article that might help: http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/rfi/index.html For a general overview that includes the above, take a look at: http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/about_seti/about_seti_at_home_1.html Cheers, Rob |
