Kong here in Australia the federal government tells the states you wish to go it alone fine do your thing but you'll get less money from us and they change there mind . Only when 2 or more states hold out is there a problem . so maybe your federal government should do the same .

As they say "money talks Bull shite walks"

As for your war well I say again didn't you learn last time only this time you'll be on your own .

They can't do it that way here. Can't say you must have a minimum state income tax rate of 5%. There are a pesky couple of clauses in our constitution that prevents it.

Best they ever were able to do was say set a 55MPH limit if you want federal highway funds. Mostly worked except for a couple rural states that didn't have a lot of federal highway, but had tons of state highway. That however was the undoing as people saw it wasn't uniform nationally.

You should try and learn something about the USA and how it works before you demand it do what you personally want.

I never implied that centralised power should be the power of one person. I was thinking more on the lines of a democratically elected assembly, like the Senate or the Houses of Parliament.

And most of the time, before the 20th century, it has been some French leader the English have had to go and sort out. World policeman, you're still on the learning curve.

Not only the UK:(
"We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg."
I think most EU country have the same issues.
For instance...
At a young age they are attracted to Europe by friends, neighbors or relatives, with the hope that one day be able to buy their own homes and, ultimately, achieve a better life. But what meets the girls who manage to get across the dangerous waters are far worse than had been expected them at home.

True, especially white slavery. (Didn't the Germans just bust a brothel using 900 police and find some slaves?) But I don't know about the Vietnamese drug gardener slaves or the car wash slaves. They might be a bit more unique to the UK. California has had its own issues with car wash slaves, but that mostly created by the US idiocy of building a wall, so the chains were more economic and less physical, wage theft, no pay for overtime, tips stolen, etc. accept it or we call the police and have you deported!

"As the European Union begins to disintegrate, who can provide the leadership to save it?

“Nein zu Allem.”...This phrase – “No to everything” – is how Mario Draghi, the European Central Bank president, recently described the standard German response to all economic initiatives aimed at strengthening Europe. A classic case was Merkel’s veto of a proposal by Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi to fund refugee programmes in Europe, North Africa, and Turkey through an issue of EU bonds, an efficient and low-cost idea also advanced by leading financiers such as George Soros.

Merkel’s high-handed refusal even to consider broader European interests if these threaten her domestic popularity has become a recurring nightmare for other EU leaders. This refusal underpins not only her economic and immigration policies, but also her bullying of Greece, her support for coal subsidies, her backing of German carmakers over diesel emissions, her kowtowing to Turkey on press freedom, and her mismanagement of the Minsk agreement in Ukraine. In short, Merkel has done more to damage the EU than any living politician, while constantly proclaiming her passion for “the European project”."

A wise person will STFU from time to time and actually listen to what others have to say.

Barn door wide open

"France and Germany have proposed a new 'emergency brake' that could suspend visa-free travel for countries that no longer meet the specific criteria. But commission officials have indicated that idea has been rejected."

Bet that won't go down well in Paris or Berlin.

Notice this though...

"Politicians who want to stay in the EU are now warning that a withdrawal threatens to revive the former Northern Ireland bloody conflict."

...they'll say anything to keep their noses in the trough.

The graph shows how much European countries elected to a nationalist party.
The figures since the elections are much higher now.

After seeing this, think Nickerless Clegg is the "Prince of Turnabouts" as the King has spoken...

Turkey joining the EU is not remotely on the cards

...so let's go back 5 years when he became PM & on his visit to Turkey...

“I will remain your strongest advocate for EU membership”.

...hmmm, will President Erdogan welcome him back to Turkey after the referendum?
