Right now I could use some help.

The only motherboard that I have that I know works needs an air cooled chipset block, mine is missing and I can't find the part.

I have an ASUS Rampage III Extreme, but it was converted to water cooling, but it otherwise works. This could get My notes back to Me.

I think bidding won't go very high, not on a dead motherboard.

I got a message from ebay, later.

I can't bid, the seller informs Me that the 29th is too far away and their seller assistant software would open a case against Me. :(

Sigh...

Victor....
You don't NEED a motherboard.
You need to keep the lights on and keep kitty safe and warm.
I can spare you a little bit, but you have to promise it will go to kitty care and not your computer juju.

My bank account is a bit played out right now as well, because I gave in to an urge and bought a Marshall Kilburn and an iPod.

But, I can give you just a little bit. For kitty, Victor.
For Grace.

Meow.

If Vic feels that his thread has been hi-jacked, he can hit the magic red button. My guess is that Vic will be willing to share this thread with others in need.

Yes. But then again, it is up to Vic to set the rules and the tone of his thread.

I will allow Sues post, She's a friend on FB with Me.

So far $31.64 has been raised, thanks to Mark and by someone named Easter Bunny, whoever that is.

Actually these "Go Fund Me" jobs are making us look like a bunch of bludgers to a hell of a lot of newbies (I'm sorry, but facts are facts).

Cheers.

Most forums online have a section where members are free to post whatever they want. That is allowed here, too, within the usual standards of etiquette. I really don't think the Help requests are hurting anyone or the SETI forums in general.

I don't find it offensive for somebody to ask for a helping hand if needed.
Certainly, anybody who finds it objectionable does not have to help out.
I am not rolling in dough here, but I have been known to help others out once in a while.

<<<"No commercial advertisements."

That seems to be the sticking point. I know Vic isn't commercial, or the other recent requests. I know they are legitimate and from people without other resources. But as others point out, someone driving by the posts will not know that and may make assumptions about the place. Also the more there are, it will attract more and the more likely abuse of this generous standard will happen.

Something for Fred to chew upon.

How could anybody seeing Vic's request perceive it as coming from a commercial entity?
And what of my past requests for folks to consider donation to my local animal shelter? They are non-profit. And certainly a worthy cause.
And Blurf's fundraising for the American Cancer Society?

Is Vic's request for help any less worthy of consideration?

Ok once again I have or will have a working pc again, I got a motherboard, cpu and memory to work, yay!

Details in my thread in NC and pics on Facebook for the moment.

The Asus x58 as is auction has been deleted from My ebay page on ebay, I'm hoping my ASUS x79 drivers dvd is ok(for ethernet mainly), as the back does not look great, I do have the EVGA x79 dvd as a possible backup, on ebay the ASUS dvd is $13.99 with FREE shipping, but I'd have to order that by Thorsday to get here before the 29th.

Now if only my shoulders would stop hurting, yeah I took some pills for that.
