Hi,

I created a thread in one of the groups. So far 153 have seen it, but no one has offered a solution to the problem I describe. Seeing it there, day after day, just taking up bandwidth to no avail, is, I think, wasteful.

I see no way to remove a thread one has started? Does anyone know how to do that?

Thank you,
River Song (aka Linda Latte on planet Earth)

Just hit the little red "X", bottom left by the "reply" button and ask for it to be removed, but it'll remain on the server as it'll just be hidden in reality.

The thing is that very few of us here use the screen saver at all (let alone any screen saver other than "blank") which is likely why you're not getting any replies. ;-)

Cheers.

Thank you kind Sir !!! Gee, wish 'they' would have given a 'title' to the X :) Oh well, I really love the SETI Screen Saver; it's SO pretty! :)

The thing is, to some of us, the cycles needed to run the screen saver are better spent processing work. :-)

Cheers.

Ahhh, gotcha.... well, my PC runs 24/7 for SETI, as yours likely does. Right now I'm processing 4 different Arecibo files, all were recorded back in 2010, 6 years ago, and held in storage till now. I don't think by running a screen saver that I'm 'slowing up' the discovery of E.T. by a whole lot :)

When I used the 'X' to delete my thread I got a msg back asking why I found the thread 'offensive?' I had to explain that the thread was my own and I wanted to delete it as I never got an answer to the screen saver problem I posed. I wish there was a simple 'button' one could press if they simply wanted to remove a post and not have to explain why. :)

Those tapes have already been processed under V6 & V7 (maybe even V5) so it only makes sense to run them again under V8. ;-)

That's what you get when the system is setup by scientific types. :-D

Cheers.

Hahahahaha, "scientific types," <giggles> Well, I'm a "scientific type" and I wudn't have set it up that way.

Why do data files have to be processed over and over? That makes little sense.

You so funny.......

The point of re-crunching data is that with different algorithms, different results may be found. Suppose I am doing a sweep for the numeral 3 in a huge number. I tune my algorithm to look for the numeral 3. There is still data that can represent other numerals, but unless I expand my algorithm, I won't see it. That is what Seti is doing. They are increasing what they would consider a detection signal to keep evolving, and since the raw data wasn't scanned for that new structure, old data can be re-evaluated.

Hmmmm. Very interesting...... See my recent post: "Message boards : SETI@home Science : Reception of Signals from Deep Space.."

Maybe they should try signal integration?
