...and it looks like the connector is labeled BAT.

Wow thanx HAL.

So if my ghetto-fix falls apart and considering I hardly ever have the main battery attached... what's the worst case scenario? I'll have to set the clock each time I unplug obviously but... anything else that I should be aware of?

Any chance I can solder the wires to the PCB if I have to?

BTW. and purely out of curiosity, those disc batteries aren't rechargeable are they? Is there such a thing as a rechargeable coin-batt?

A dead/non-existent BIOS/UEFI battery isn't the end of the world. The clock is likely the worst thing you would have to deal with. Did you have any, BIOS/UEFI related, issues when you powered it on after putting everything back together? The batteries are meant to be replaceable as they have a limited lifespan. Often quoted as being in the 6-8 year range.
Unless you broke the connector off of the MB you could order a new battery. Which would come with a new cable attached. Generally you don't find rechargeable button cells, but they might exist somewhere. However it is easier to find 1 to 5 Farad 5.5v capacitors. Which are used in place of batteries for backup purposes. The capacitors are about the size of 3-4 button cells stacked. So placement could be an issue.

Admittedly a much more elegant approach than the brute force of a soldering iron :)

The tape seems to be working for now as I'm not being asked to load BIOS settings any time I power up after switching locations without the main battery attached. I doubt I'll be getting away with it for too long though.

So thanx again HAL!
