I'm shore I read that the release of the ozzy mozzy in brazil may actually help stop the spread of yellow fever
Does the ozzy mozzy mate with the Brazilian mozzie? If it doesn't it doesn't stop anything.

Yes there the same type of mozzy I'm shore I posted something about trials in Singapore some time ago about it and they where using the same type of bacteria as is being used to stop Zika

We must fight the deadly superbug threat with every tool we've got

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released its first list of the world's most dangerous “superbugs” – raising the alarm about 12 families of bacteria that have developed resistance to even the most powerful antibiotics, and according to the report, making hospital, nursing home stays and routine surgeries more dangerous.

Infectious disease experts have long feared the emergence of bacteria that cannot be treated with available drugs. It’s a scene where a surgeon or family doctor watches helplessly as an infection progresses without having the tools to help keep their patient alive.

Skins creams containing paraffin linked to fire deaths
Sneaky cigarette

Despite warnings going back more than 10 years, BBC Radio 5 live Investigates has discovered there have been 37 deaths in England since 2010 linked to the creams.
Carol Hoe's husband Philip died after accidentally setting himself on fire at Doncaster Royal Infirmary in 2006 when sparks from a cigarette reacted with the emollient cream he was covered in.
"I got a phone call from the ward sister to say can you get to the hospital as soon as possible, Philip's had an accident," she said.
"Philip had caught fire. He had sneaked off onto a landing for a sneaky cigarette, a gust of wind must have caught the lighter, and it set fire to him."
Image caption Philip Hoe accidentally set himself on fire
Within seconds Mr Hoe, who was receiving treatment for psoriasis, was engulfed in flames and he died shortly after being transferred to another hospital in Sheffield.
"When we got there, the staff came to me and told us he was covered with 90% burns," said Mrs Hoe.
"There was nothing they could do."

To End Tuberculosis It Must be Eliminated From Animals

Tuberculosis should be a specter of the past, something only our great-grandparents feared and died of. Alas, although almost all cases of TB today are both preventable and treatable, several different strains and manifestations of the disease still sicken and kill millions of people every year.

Global tuberculosis interventions are usually tied to larger HIV/AIDS programs. As such, billions of dollars are spent every year improving medical care for people living with HIV and fighting the opportunistic infections—foremost, tuberculosis—that continue to kill so many AIDS patients.

British scientists in world-first TB breakthrough

British scientists have made a world-first breakthrough in the diagnosis of tuberculosis.

Researchers in Oxford and Birmingham say they can isolate different strains of the disease using a process called genome sequencing.

It means patients who may have waited months to get the right drugs can now be diagnosed in just a few days - so they have a greater chance of recovery.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the breakthrough "will save lives".

Cases of TB in the UK have begun falling recently, but England still has one of the highest rates in Europe.

Meningitis outbreak kills at least 140 in Nigeria

An outbreak of meningitis in several states of Nigeria has killed at least 140 people, officials say.

It has been reported over the last week in six states and has so far infected more than 1,000 people, the Abuja Centre for Disease Control says.

Meningitis causes an acute inflammation of the outer layers of the brain and spinal cord.

The current outbreak is the worst in Nigeria since 2009 when it killed at least 156 people.

Lung probe 'to help cut the unnecessary use of antibiotics'

A lung probe that diagnoses bacterial infections could prevent unnecessary use of antibiotics in intensive care units, researchers believe.

The fibre-optic tube can show within 60 seconds whether a patient needs to be treated with the drugs.

It is hoped the Proteus technology could tackle the emergence of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics.

The project has been developed by scientists at the universities of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt and Bath.

Proteus has received £2m of funding from the Wellcome Trust.

It will also be boosted by nearly £1m from the CARB-X antibiotic resistance project co-funded by the US government and Wellcome.

It's taken some time but looks like someone finally joined the dots . Vitamin C taken when you are sick has been known for along time to help you get over colds or flu's and other illness as it strengthens your immune system so not too surprising it would help with cancer .

Aldi issues recall for frozen sweet peas

Do you have some sweet peas in your freezer? If you bought them at an Aldi, you should check to see whether they are part of a recall the grocery store chain issued Tuesday.

Supplier Lakeside Foods Inc. and Aldi recalled Season’s Choice frozen sweet peas because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Listeria monocytogenes is a pathogen that causes serious infection.

After the supplier notified the grocery chain of the possible contamination, ALDI removed the affected product from its stores.

The Season’s Choice frozen sweet peas were sold at Aldi locations in Illinois, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

No illnesses have been reported, and no other Aldi products are affected by this recall.

If customers have product affected by this voluntary recall, they should discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund, according to the recall. Customers who have questions can contact Lakeside Foods at 1-800-466-3834 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Bat reportedly found in packaged Fresh Express salad mix

(CNN)Two people were recommended for post-exposure rabies treatment after a consumer in Florida reported finding a dead bat in a packaged salad mix, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday.
The bat was sent to the CDC after it was found in a bag of Fresh Express Organic Marketside Spring Mix.
"The deteriorated condition of the bat did not allow for CDC to definitively rule out whether this bat had rabies," the Atlanta-based agency said.

Follow up:

Some packaged salads recalled after dead bat found inside, CDC says

NEW YORK -- Several agencies have joined forces as part of an investigation into the discovery of a dead bat that was allegedly found in a packaged salad in Florida, authorities said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a media statement that two people reported eating some of the salad before finding the animal.

Authorities say the bat was sent to the CDC rabies lab for testing.

“The deteriorated condition of the bat did not allow for CDC to definitively rule out whether this bat had rabies,” the statement indicated.

Following the incident, Fresh Express issued a recall on Saturday of a limited number of cases of Organic Marketside Spring Mix out of an abundance of caution.
What to look for on recalled product:

Organic Marketside Spring Mix -- 5 oz. clear container
Production code of G089B19 and best-if-used-by date of APR 14 2017, located on the top label
UPC Code of 6 8113132897 5 located on the bottom of the container next to the bar code

According to the CDC, the salads were distributed to Wal-Mart stores located in the Southeastern region of the U.S.
States where salads may have been distributed:

Alabama
Florida
Georgia
Louisiana
Mississippi
North Carolina
South Carolina
Virginia

For more information, call (800) 242-5472 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET.

Officials stressed that those who have eaten the recalled salad and didn’t find animal material aren’t at risk, and don’t need to contact their health department.

The CDC also mentioned in its release:

Fresh Express takes matters of food safety very seriously and rigorously complies with all food safety regulations including the proscribed Good Agricultural Practices. In addition, a range of stringent controls are in place during growing and harvesting to mitigate against field material from entering the raw product system. In manufacturing, additional controls including thorough washing and filtration systems as well as visual inspections that are designed to eliminate unwanted debris.

New model maps likelihood of Ebola spillovers

Athens, Ga. - Ecologists at the University of Georgia have developed a model that maps the likelihood of Ebola virus "spillovers"-when the virus jumps from its long-term host to humans or animals such as great apes-across Africa on a month-by-month basis.

Their findings, published recently in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, reveal seasonal and regional patterns that could help public health officials decide when and where to target Ebola disease surveillance most effectively.

The model predicts that the risk of a spillover in Central Africa, where most Ebola cases have occurred, remains relatively steady throughout the year. It also predicts that spillovers are possible in West and East Africa, with the level of risk varying depending on the season; in both areas, a spillover is most likely during transitions between dry and rainy periods.

Above: Maps show shifts in the geographic pattern of Ebola spillover inensity from month to month.

US Health officials issue urgent warning after spate of brain-invading worm attacks

HEALTH officials in the US have issued an urgent warning about brain-invading worms capable of sneaking into human skulls and killing you.

Medics in Hawaii have been warning people not to touch snails or slugs with their bare hands as the beasts carry a parasite called rat lungworm.

In two hundreds years, there have been only two reports of rat lungworm infections on the island.

But in the past three months, six more cases have cropped up in close succession.

The parasite has also popped up in California, Alabama, Louisiana and Florida.

And now there are concerns that the worm — which experts claim could be caused by climate change — could spread globally.

Rat lungworm is a parasite that begins its life as an infection in rat’s blood, brains and lungs.

Rats defecate its worm larvae, which is then spread to snails, slugs and seafood.

Humans might eat one of these infected hosts and within weeks their brain could be invaded.

Once it lodges in the brain it can cause meningitis and symptoms like pain, swelling and tremors.

It is often fatal.

Cheers.
