CDC reports first highly resistant gonorrhea in US

The specter of gonorrhea completely resistant to the drugs used to treat it just grew larger.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today reported for the first time cases involving gonorrhea bacteria having high resistance to azithromycin and reduced susceptibility to ceftriaxone, the two drugs that are currently recommended and are described as the last available effective treatment.

Tests confirm Jurupa Valley child has leprosy

Lab tests have confirmed that a Jurupa Valley child has leprosy, or Hansen’s disease, Riverside County public health officials reported Thursday, Sept. 22.

The findings by the National Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) Laboratory Research Program in Baton Rouge, La., supported a local doctor’s diagnosis that a student at Indian Hills Elementary School had leprosy.

A second student who may be related to the other child also had been diagnosed with the disease, but lab results did not confirm that the second person has leprosy.

That disease is born out of filth, and marginal
living conditions. As a child in the 1950s in Nova
Scotia, leprosy would turn up from time to time.
There was a leper colony in New Brunswick. But with
the national health care, and improving living
conditions the colony was closed in the sixties.
It takes a combination of filth, and a person's need to do
the work every day to feed himself that breeds leprosy.
It is that bad in lots of places in the world, but I
thought north America was immune to this still.

About 100 cases per year in the USA. There are now treatments for it, if it is diagnosed early.

Sorry to hear you has this problem Lynn hope you have it under control and I can understand why Henson's scares you .

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a long-term skin condition, that can also affect joints. Although the cause of psoriasis is unknown, genes may play a part. People with psoriasis are at slightly higher risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

This link is one I'm not shore about because of the politics of health care and the Liberal Party trying to stuff up Medicare but it does have all the state gov. health departments listed , I'm just sus on why it's recommending private health providers . The info is probably accurate thou .

Thanks Glenn, Gary, for all the links, and wishes.

I do not have psoriasis any longer. If you are young and don't know what you have you think the worse leprosy. Both psoriasis and leprosy, are skin infections. Thanks Ian, also.

At the moment it is illegal to sell raw milk but there are those that are trying to get the law changed .

People can be very silly the reason we pasteurised milk is to stop this from happening as many many many people used to die from bad milk in the days when it was not pasteurised

In fact drinking bad milk was used by females to cause a miscarriage in unwanted pregnancies .

http://fox61.com/2016/09/25/beef-sold-in-connecticut-recalled-after-2-hospitalized-due-to-e-coli/
HARTFORD –Beef from a Massachusetts slaughterhouse is being recalled after testing positive for E. Coli and sickening people in several states including two in Connecticut according to state and federal agencies.

The Connecticut Department of Public Health and the United States Department of Agriculture said this weekend, meat products sold at farmers markets from the Adams’ Slaughterhouse in Athol, Massachusetts, including veal, bison and beef, tested positive for E. coli. The contamination made two people in Connecticut sick as well as others in nearby states.

That is not surprising gary . I have noticed on cooking shows and things that show American food that you often don't cook your meat and because you eat a lot of Hamburgers AKA minced meat you should always cook it properly and that means the meat should not be pink in the middle

Minced meat has the highest contamination of E-coli than any other type of meat that you will eat .

I would suggest you all stop listening to so called chiefs and make shore your hamburger's are cook properly as most places are not run like a high end restaurant and even then you are not completely safe from E-coli

Facts about the USA:

A high end restaurant is where you are most likely to get food poisoning in the USA. A lowly chain fast food joint is 100 times cleaner.

Look up most any article on food inspection in the USA. http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/eh/DSE/RetailFoodInsection/desfood.htm
go to town https://ehservices.publichealth.lacounty.gov/ezsearch

But my cite is a personal conversation with a public health inspector. They personally refuse to eat at non-chain restaurants.

If you want a why, chain places send their employees to school to learn how to do things correctly (or the chains way.) Independent places can't afford that.

I don't but when Chiefs go to America like Heston Blumenthal when he went to the states to find out how to make the ultimate burger you see how it's cooked at several places and from what I saw the meat is not cooked .

You cook your burger how ever you wish just don't whine when you get E-coli poisoning
