MK I looked at your links and SIT is not really what the Ozzie Mozzie is as your not trying to make them sterile . In fact I would say it is more to do with Phage medicine and not SIT . A combination of both types of techniques but more Phage than SIT.

As for spine bifida well there are a few reasons that occurs and some may even be genetic in origin so SIT or what the Australian has done may not work in that case and that also goes for a vaccine as there does seem to be a few different reasons it occurs

MK they are releasing both adults and lava and they want them to spread so the offspring of thet gen that is released will pass the bacteria on to the next gen . I would say the best way to think of it would be to say we are using the Mozzie as a vaccine a mobile flying needle that will spread though out the species that will provide protection from Dengue and Zika to all humans .

Zika virus is related to dengue, yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, and West Nile viruses.

http://www.zikavirusnet.com/epidemiology.html

This site has more info on Zika and it Epidemiology . I haven't found how the Mozzies got the disease in the first place or weather it also works on the other related variants but it's probably to early to know this as the main concern is Zika and Dengue

MK this link is to the Wolbachia bacteria that is being used to fight Dengue and Zika buy infecting Mozzies with it and then releasing them .

It is a parasite type of bacteria so unlike a vaccine the Zika and Dengue viruses may never be able to come up with a way to stop it attacking them .

Ergo the perfect vaccine that's not a vaccine

A yellow fever epidemic in Angola could turn into a global crisis

LUANDA, Angola — Almost 80 years after the yellow fever vaccine was created in a New York laboratory, a massive outbreak of the disease has killed hundreds of people in this country, where most were never immunized.

Now, the virus is jumping across borders into other nations whose populations are also largely unvaccinated. More than 3,000 suspected cases are in Angola and 1,000 in neighboring Congo, making this the biggest urban epidemic in decades. More than 400 people have died. There are growing concerns that Chinese workers — of whom there are thousands in Angola — will carry the virus to Asia, where nearly all of the rural poor are also unvaccinated.

Lynn read the post I have made about the Wolbachia bacteria that is now being used against Zika and Dengue as it may also work with others like malaria and yellow fever , of cause there will need to be some research to find the right strain of the Wolbachia bacteria so there is hope we can do something about it

Zika vaccine 'works very well' in mice

A single dose of an experimental vaccine can protect mice against the Zika virus, raising renewed hope of a vaccine for humans, say scientists.

The US team say the results, published in Nature, are "striking" and should "galvanise" research efforts.

Tests in humans could begin in months.

Darth Beaver, much thanks for the links, and connecting the bacteria.
We need a working vaccine.

First baby with Zika-related birth defect microcephaly born in Florida

A Haitian woman in Florida has delivered the first baby in the state born with the birth defect microcephaly caused by the Zika virus, Florida's health department said on Tuesday.

The mother contracted the mosquito-borne virus in her home country and traveled to Florida to give birth, state officials said in statements.

Experts say Zika virus may be spreading in mosquitoes and people in Texas, other states

The Zika virus may be spreading through local mosquito and human populations in Texas, Arizona and California. The infection could go undetected until babies are born with birth defects, some tropical medicine experts say.

The virus has been linked to nerve damage in adults and to brain, skull and eye deformities in babies. Zika is the first mosquito-borne disease known to cross the placenta and cause birth defects in humans.

The thing that scares me is when I read stories about an amoeba that enters through the nose and eats people's brains. Yikes!

Timeline: Zika's origin and global spread

The following timeline charts the origin and spread of the Zika virus from its discovery nearly 70 years ago:

1947: Scientists researching yellow fever in Uganda's Zika Forest identify the virus in a rhesus monkey

1948: Virus recovered from Aedes africanus mosquito in Zika Forest

1952: First human cases detected in Uganda and Tanzania

1954: Virus found in Nigeria

1960s-80s: Zika detected in mosquitoes and monkeys across equatorial Africa

1969-83: Zika found in equatorial Asia, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan

2007: Zika spreads from Africa and Asia, first large outbreak on Pacific island of Yap

2012: Researchers identify two distinct lineages of the virus, African and Asian

2013-14: Zika outbreaks in French Polynesia, Easter Island, the Cook Islands and New Caledonia. Retrospective analysis shows possible link to birth defects and severe neurological complications in babies in French Polynesia

March 2, 2015: Brazil reports illness characterized by skin rash in northeastern states

July 17: Brazil reports detection of neurological disorders in newborns associated with history of infection

Oct. 5: Cape Verde has cases of illness with skin rash

Ibuprofen 'disables' Ebola virus

The painkiller ibuprofen and the cancer drug toremifene can disable the Ebola virus, say researchers.

Scientists used the UK's national synchrotron facility - Diamond Light Source - to analyse the virus in incredible detail.

They revealed the two drugs could bind to the crucial part of Ebola that the virus needs to infect cells.

However, the team warns this is just a starting point and more effective drugs need to be researched.

Health officials race to prevent Congo yellow fever disaster

It is the stuff of a disaster movie: an outbreak of yellow fever in Congo's capital city, full of unvaccinated people mostly huddled together in slums with too few drains and the kind of sticky, fetid climate that mosquitoes love.

Kinshasa's 12 million people - twice as many as there are doses of yellow fever vaccine anywhere in the world - are largely unprotected against this sometimes deadly but easily preventable illness, which has killed at least 353 in Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbor Angola.

Report: Fears grow Zika virus could act like STD

The Zika virus, the mosquito-born disease that has spread rapidly through South America to the United States, has been known to be transmitted at least on occasion through sex.

In May, health officials began urging women who have been in areas hit by the virus to take precautions with their sexual partners and wait longer to conceive.

ibuprufen can only me administered to someone on 1st stage of Ebola, 'cause of it side effects: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Painkillers-ibuprofen/Pages/Side-effects.aspx

also, toremifene is not a mild drug: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-4557/toremifene-oral/details#side-effects

so we're long way from cure! :/

The first case of Zika virus in Riverside County has been detected, health officials said Tuesday.

The virus was found in a 50-year-old man who had recently traveled to the Caribbean, according to the Riverside County health department. The patient likely became infected while traveling to the Dominican Republic, officials said.

Ebola Study to Test New Drug in Men Whose Semen Harbors Virus

Researchers said Tuesday they are testing a new drug in men who still have evidence of Ebola virus in their semen months after they've recovered.

The study, partly sponsored by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, will test whether the drug can clear the virus from the men's bodies. At least one fresh outbreak of Ebola in Liberia has been traced to the semen of a man who had recovered from the infection.

Shortage of syringes hampers Congo's fight against yellow fever

A shortage of syringes is hampering plans to vaccinate people in Democratic Republic of Congo against a yellow fever epidemic despite the arrival of more than one million doses of vaccine, health officials said.

Congo's government declared a yellow fever epidemic last month in the capital Kinshasa and two other provinces near the border with Angola.

Largest US measles outbreak in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Health officials in Arizona say the largest current measles outbreak in the United States is in part because some workers at a federal immigration detention center refuse to get vaccinated.

Authorities have confirmed 22 measles cases in Arizona since late May. They all stem from the Eloy Detention Center, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility managed by the private Corrections Corporation of America.
