I have been using the BOINC stats tab to find out (roughly) how my machines are doing under v8 and Lunatics. (Before v8, I was running Lunatics also). I would like to know: how is the Host/User average calculated? That is, how many days does it go back, and how are the different days weighted in the calculation, so I can get an idea of how long it will take to approximate the "real" value. Also, does BOINC simply use a certain time of day to calculate the daily RAC, or does it use the (variable, to put it mildly) time that SETI distributes the "daily" info to the various services that produce charts and other stats? Of course, I know that daily RAC is fairly variable, and that RAC also depends on the (more or less) random bursts of AP that we all get. But knowing how the calculation is done would be helpful. Thanks, all! |

The statistics tab in BOINC Manager is just a snapshot in time. It does absolutely zero calculations of its own--it just reports the numbers that it was told from the most recent scheduler reply on that particular date. That's all it does. I've watched my RAC change multiple times on the same single day because of multiple scheduler contacts, and the last scheduler reply from the day is what gets "frozen" for that date in the statistics tab. btw, fun fact... (pretty sure it was Josef that helped figure this one out), if you want more than the default of 30 days, the limit is 24855 days (2^31 - 1 / 86400). Here's mine from my single-core machine (1920x1080, btw): Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

Well the BOINC server calculates RAC each time credit is granted in an exponential average. There is also an built in decay mechanism. that is suppose to lower the RAC value every two weeks. However from what I've seen that mechanism may or may not work correctly. Depending on the mood BOINC mood is in. A change may cause your RAC to jump right away or it could take several weeks. I would like to know: how is the Host/User average calculated? This is from the BOINC Wiki, and it's pretty useless. Digging deeper into the WWW revealed this, which is probably what you are looking for. |

That is, how many days does it go back The number of days being reported, I believe is defaulted to 30 days. This can be adjusted to see a larger/smaller time span, by inserting the following into the cc_config.xml file, check here for proper placement. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration <save_stats_days>N</save_stats_days> I was dissatisfied with the 30-day look, so I expanded mine out to 120 days, which gives me a more realistic look on how I'm progressing over an extended time frame.
