the only thing in politics is Rack and thumb screws. LOL This isn't it. LOL
No more politics out of me.

Oh, okay :) Well if it's not what I thought it was, I'll go with what it makes me want to do every time I look at it, which is to peer through it. Specially that little rectangular space on the right of middle.

It's for looking at things through it... but adjustable so you can block out things you don't want to see?

It's for measuring chocolate bar "shrinkage". I'm not talking what happens after we've taken a bite out of it. No. I'm talking about the kind where we find we've paid more for something shorter, thinner, narrower and flatter than it was last time we bought one.

edit@your edit: I did my famous mad chips (your fries) last night, but I also shallow-fried a moth at the same time :/ it sort of flew in. Deep fried from his perspective probably :(

Enjoy your breakfast! :)

I see why Gary thought this might belong in politics. Anyway, there we go, Grant! :) Nice to see you posting again xx
I suspect you are setting your sights in the right direction.

Me? *SNORT all over the place* yeah right :)

*look at tool again* so in an emergency, I whip that out with my right hand, my gun with the left hand... shove the nozzle.. erm... barrel into one of those gaps and rest assured that I won't shoot myself in the foot?

Cool :)

EDIT@Rob: Have you tried talking to it?

I never hit what I aim at. It's always been a bit of a puzzle to me but there we are... *BEAM soothingly all round thread* straight in front of me is usually the safest place people.

*contemplate "sharp"*

Is it for aligning your bayonet with your barrel in a sort of parallel formation, Grant? I don't know what you'd call that though...

oh...and did we say we like humans too? Well we do :)

It lets you see behind you... somehow.

??

Like a rear view mirror...

It's a rear view mirror that allows a hunter to reclassify himself as hunted.

Why do I have the feeling some classic joinery technique is involved in getting sighted in on the answer.
