Dear Readers of this post.
For several days now, 1 of my seti@home AMD/ATI Tasks has remained at 21.130% completed according to BONIC Manger. Should I abort the task? The task has been alLocated 0.0190 CPUs + 1 AMD/ ATI GPU. Host Software environment,64 bit windows 10 Home edition, 4 gigs of ram + 4 gigs windows readyboost. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. I am using the standard application provided with the task setiathome_v8.00_windows_intelx86_opencl_ati5_sah.exe; task name : 19mr11ad.15949.24104.13.40.215

22 views and no replies or answers.. what am I to think? The task is still showing 21.130% complete even with all the time between starting this thread and adding this post. At this point abort task or reset project seams like the best solution.. unless anyone else has any better ideas

Have you restarted BOINC?

Have you suspended the task then un-suspended it?

If not try them first, then report the result.

With your computers hidden no one really see what is happening.

Un-hiding you computers will not reveal any personal or usable data.

Click on my username and have a look at mine to see what can be seen

PS You will probably get a quicker answer in the Number Crunching forum, where most of the experts are.

where do I unhide my computers?
The same type of error has happened with the next task of the same type, I have tried restarting bonic & rebooting the computer

Go to your account page;

Under the Preferences click on the "SETI@Home Preferences" link (bottom one).

In the "Primary (default) preferences"field at the bottom click "edit preferences"

Click in the tick box next to "Should SETI@home show your computers on its web site?"

Then click "Update preferences"

ok, My computers should have be visible; it is the aspire running windows 10. Tried suspend / resume task. no change, had a display driver error message within 20 seconds of the task starting to calculate. Then it just stopped again. Latest driver installed from windows update. So what do I try next?

Unfortunately I am not an AMD user so my experience is limited..

However normal advice is never to use the Windows update drives as they are "cut down" versions that may work for games but have some parts missing.

Get the drives from the AMD/ATI website.

I think the best option is to move this to number crunching where there is much more expertise.

Try to edit mb_cmdline*.txt file and add there

-period_iterations_num 500

Save file then suspend/resume task.

I have installed a driver from amd.com, and put that period line into all 4 copies of the specified file name.. without wanting to jinx it, at this point in time, computation is now moving in the right direction.

Thank you so much to all who helped :)

Same thing here.

Since the upgrade to Win10 my 7640G gpu on my laptop crashes out quite often. Never did with Win 8.1 using the same drivers. I also updated to the newest AMD driver and it still happens. Gonna add this command line into the .txt file and see how it works.

Do you also find that periodically your screen goes blank, windows produces a tone similar to unplugging a usb device, before the screen lights back up?

My aspire desktop is a mix of AMD GPU & Intel I3 CPU (4 Logical processors, 2 actual physical, 2 Virtualization cores)

Actually no, I do get a flicker at the top of the screen when the gpu is hot. Mine is a HP with the AMD A8 , 4 core, APU...left it crunching after putting in the command line. Will see when I get home.

So far everything appears ok, GPU task is crunching after adding the command line.

Glad to hear it.

I have dedicated this poem to Bonic research volunteers everywhere and to those who help others via this & other message boards:

The math of gpu computing is now back under way
Following instructions, executing them in the order they say
To the team of online peer assistance, Hip Hip Hooray!
Your help and advice is much appreciated
A virtual family related
by a shared goal escalated
A circle with no sides
Seeing the throughput graph rise rather than slide
research also being done in the computers spare cpu time
Celebrate with a milkshake flavored lime
