Just found i-Cloud processes, (several of them listed in Task Manager), taking up 100% CPU usage on 3 of 4 cores on Prometheus, (my Intel Quad QX9650 CPU), and had to kill the processes to get BOINC to crunch!!! I DON'T even use i-Cloud!!! I choose to backup and encrypt the backup of my i-Phone through i-Tunes to Prometheus directly! WHY would i-Cloud need to take up 100% usage on 3 of 4 cores????? If you, too, have i-Cloud on your computer; I suggest either permanently killing it, or uninstalling it! What a crock of @#$%!!!!! Now, going to monitor Prometheus for usage and see what happens. So far, in killing the i-Cloud processes CPU usage has dropped to below 25% on 3 cores, and one core is at 0% usage... BOINC now processing SETI@Home work, again, and seems to be OK. TL [EDIT] Oh, forgot to mention that I DON'T crunch on CPU; but crunch NVIDIA GPU on my GTX-750 TI SC on Prometheus. So CPU usage SHOULD be low... TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Likely you Mac is backing up that big data dump from your phone to i-cloud, syncing the calendar, playlists, etc. If you want that to stop go into your system preferences i-cloud, turn off the check boxes and sign out. Know however when you sign into i-tunes it may sign you back into i-cloud. |

Know however when you sign into i-tunes it may sign you back into i-cloud. I'm NOT on a MAC... This is a PC. i-Cloud is a separate entity from i-Tunes. I suppose I could uninstall i-Cloud and then never have to worry about it... I don't think I ever set anything in i-Cloud to do anything specific; it should be at its default parameters. I don't back up to i-Cloud; I had MANY problems with two i-Phone 5's corrupting software, and then having NO ability to correct their malfunctions. They would routinely ignore MY Purchased Default Ringtone and go back to the generic Apple Default ringtone. Also, the second i-Phone 5 lost the ability to maintain battery charge, and powered off permanently one month into its use. So, had to exchange that for what is now MY THIRD, FIRST SMARTPHONE - i-Phone 5C, 32 GB device. Been on third phone for a year, now; so, I think I'm OK... Software has NOT recorrupted since having phone #3. In getting phone 3, AppleCare stated I should perform backups to my PC's hard drive instead. So, again, no use of i-Cloud for me... I don't use i-Tunes for ANYTHING but backing up my phone. NO music downloaded, just about a dozen ring tones. I have some personal pictures I've taken; those are on the phone, and backed up to i-Tunes on Prometheus' hard drive. So, again, I have NO idea why i-Cloud was performing in such a manner. In my view, there was NO reason to take up 3 of 4 cores at 100% usage on Prometheus. I have NO idea what it was doing. :-( TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |
