Thanks, Tim, for doing my avatar. Wonderful work. I don't know how to do such things, so Yu da Mang!

It's small but mighty (to me, anyway). It's a single, 47-minute exposure of the Horsehead Nebula taken through a 100mm Televue refractor at Lockwood Valley, California, with a Canon Rebel digital camera at prime focus. My feet got kinda frozen standing there doing the fine-tuning part of the guiding for almost an hour.

But Timmy did the really hard part. Thanks again, Tim.

Best regards,
Robert

No way to link to it, really. At least, not yet. The original, raw image is a 7.7Mb file in one of my computers. I tweaked the raw image's contrast a bit in Photoshop, after making a copy in the .fits format.
To me, it's beautiful. The universe is a breath-taking showroom.

Ah, shame Robert. I was very interested in seeing the full image - you can't really see it too well with the little avatar.

I was interested in astronomy pictures myself as a youngster - had a cheap SLR on a tripod and I'd make little 30 second exposures. Just enough to see orion's belt, things like that :)

Robert,

I can give you a place to upload it and then link it into my web site. If you want.

Regards,
Pete

For a Grey Lensman, something can be worked out. Besides, I have long been a lurker at the OcUK message boards and figure I owe you lads sumpthin' for the fun. If you'd like a print, I'd be honored.
And drag out that old tripod and put something on it! It's beautiful out there.

Thanks, Pete. I'm going to take you up on that if I can't land on a solution of my own. I'd like to figure something out.
Thanks again.
