An old slogan for Zenith tv sets: "The quality goes in, before the name goes on..." Not sure that's the case anymore! ;~) Post some of your favorites. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Many years ago there were two ads that ran back to back. In my mind the words transmuted into: "ESSO Blue, made to make your mouth water". Older UK contributors may know what the products were - no prizes to them, but I'm sure one or two of our colonial cousins will have some fun guessing :-) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Its amazing how the tunes and the words stick in your mind after many decades. No idea what ESSO makes that would make my mouth water, but here is one for the Canucks. What product was it that you needed "one at noon, one at night, and one along the way"? |

I'll never hear the phrase 'herding cats' without remembering this commercial....... EDS....Herding cats. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I had no idea Barry Manilow did any of those, but I really wouldn't be embarrassed if I was him. A catchy tune is a catchy tune and $$$. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

See the USA in your Chevrolet. I believe Dinah Shore sang that one. I was a kid at the time.
Old James |

I zap through the ads for the most part nowadays, or hit the mute button, but I think the quality and memorable nature of the commercials was much better back when we were a captive audience with no way to skip the pitch. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

There are still many great ads being made. The one I really get a chuckle out of is a Clorox commercial where you see two boys in the bathroom putting tape on the floor. And the mom asks what going on. One kid says Its a distance contest. I nearly sprayed beer out of my nose on that one. Yeah I had some backwash in my beer can from that add.
Old James |

Perhaps the most famous ones in the UK started with "Coo-ee, Mr. Shifter!". Brits will know the ones, the stuff of legends :-) Do you mean this: "Coo-ee, Mr. Shifter!" |

No ad has made me change my car insurance. I use ads for social media fodder: i.e., I post their quotes and see if my friends like my post. Given the insane amount of money they put in to making the ads and putting them on the air, I must be "white trash" to them because I do not consume nearly as much of their crap as they'd like. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |
