Hello, above topic.

Noticed with gpu-z with core2duo and amd card HD 6950 under Windows 7 64-bit.

I used app_config.xml because , the gpu usage (with one wu) is constantly at 0% percent.

With three wus the usage is sometimes on 100 percent, but falls back to zero.

Dont know whats wrong with it.

Any guesses ?

Which driver software you have installed?

Old Catalyst or new Crimson, which version?

In your PCs/results overview stay 1800.8, so I guess it's Catalyst v.x?

In your setiathome.berkeley.edu project folder should be a file like mb_cmdline_win_x86_SSE2_OpenCL_ATi.txt (currently I'm at my non AMD/ATI VGA card PC. ;-)

Open it with Notepad (german OS: Editor) and insert:
-hp
...save and exit.

This will give the GPU app more priority (high).

I would test it first just with 1 WU/GPU, then with 2 WUs/GPU and so on... - not to overload the Duo CPU.

THX !!!

That helped much.

And increase of 300-400 percent usage (at 100%)in timeline are back.

Catalyst 15.7.1

sorry, it was ONLY temporarly, back to the drops.

using lesser wus wont change it to the better.

-------------

OK, are there options in the driver versions ? Which one should I use ?

14.4 changes nothing on it.

Here is an interesting thread about: Radeon Software Crimson

Currently it looks like: Message 1754968
my guess is that 280/380/7990 are somewhat related and you can run multiple wu per gpu

my other guess is that 290/390/fiji are related and cannot run multiple wu per gpu on current drivers without errors

with 290x i was able to roll back driver to 14.4 and run multiple wu per gpu but it wasn't very fast. it seemed faster to just use a more recent driver and run just one wu per gpu

i tried running 390x with 14.4 but it doesn't work, either driver too old or card too new

On my FuryX's PC I have Crimson 16.1 installed, same driver 1912.5 in it like in Crimson 15.12, until now not tested if 2 WUs/GPU would be possilbe with the newest one.

I guess, you could install Crimson 16.1 and let run multiple WUs/GPU on your HD6950 (if it's identical to the 280/380/7990 series).

AFAIK it have to do which Graphics Core Next (GCN) version your GPU is/have.

Strange.

Here is written:
AMD Radeon™ HD 8470, Radeon™ HD 8350, Radeon™ HD 8000 (D/G variants), Radeon™ HD 7000 Series (HD 7600 and below), Radeon™ HD 6000 Series, and Radeon™ HD 5000 Series Graphics products have been moved to a legacy support model and no additional driver releases are planned.

Catalyst 15.7.1
or
Crimson 16.1 Beta
This driver is provided "as is" and will not be supported with further updates, upgrades or bug fixes.

It looks like it's a specially driver for non GCN series.

You downloaded the software from there?

MSI Afterburner is a well tool for ATI/AMD VGA cards.
If you like, try it and look the GPU Load.

Additional...

I you would like to install a new driver,
you should uninstall the old one first and use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) for to delete old stuff which could hinder the new driver.
