I unchecked v7 and Astroglide (or whatever the name is... 8\ ) a while back and made sure v8 was checked. That way I would only work on v8. Well, your kooky computer downloads v7 units to me anyway, I have ten now, and six v8. Since I won't let it work on v7 units they just sit there. But your kooky computer won't seem to let me work on v8 units, so they just sit there too. The last v7 unit got downloaded two days ago and wont expire until March, I think. How do I get rid of these plague-ridden v7 units and prevent more from being downloaded? And how do I get it to actually work on v8 units? No, I won't let it work on v7 units. Its my choice, not your kooky computer's, or anybody else's by that matter. 8• As aliens said in the 1950s "Klatu barata nicto" , which I think roughly translates to "PCs rule!!! Apples drool..." or possibly "What's the name of that sexy refrigerator over there? I bet its freon is carbonated! Ah oogah!" |

Have you set "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?" to "no" in your SETI@home preferences? |

It is set to "no", in two places as a matter of fact, to accept other work. I know I set that later, not sure when because I hadn't noticed it before, but I know it was before the last v7 unit downloaded two days ago. How do I get rid of the ten of them now? If you know. |

Any difference between Run --> Abort and Run --> Suspend --> Abort? This because I usually do not abort tasks. |

I unchecked v7 and Astroglide (or whatever the name is... 8\ ) a while back and made sure v8 was checked. That way I would only work on v8. Well, your kooky computer downloads v7 units to me anyway v7 Astropulse or v7 Multibeam? They are different applications and unless you deselect them both you will still get work for one or the other because your computer will keep asking for it. SETI@home v7: no AstroPulse v7: no SETI@home v8: yes If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? no Make sure you click the "Update preferences" button after changing them so they are saved. Then in the BOINC manager click on Update in the Project tab to get those new settings to your computer. Grant Darwin NT |

But your kooky computer ... OK, but why "your"? He seems to think he is talking to someone that have control on the servers. Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

He seems to think he is talking to someone that have control on the servers. It's not that unreasonable to expect project admins to read their own forums. On some other projects the admins really do read the forums. |

Perhaps the other project admins aren't so busy as the Seti@home ones are. And to know how busy the admins here are you have to visit the forums regularly or be lucky enough to see someone say that. |

Your, as in not my, seti@home server computers. At least I would think a seti@home forum called number crunching i get to thru the seti@home website would be seti@home server computers and not Walmart computers. But Walmart -is- what's referred to in Revelations for the Apocalypse so I suppose it could be theirs: "And there will come a beast out of the west with seven letters and doing four vile things to horses with weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth and wearing cheap garments from out of the east costing six crowns. And it will be a pestilence upon the earth like fire out of heaven. And..." Well, I might have scrambled exactly how it goes, but you're right it could be a WalMarx computer. I just assumed a seti@home server would belong to seti@home. Silly me... I will put on my sackcloth and ashes and seek forgiveness thru Flagellation, Fasting, and... I can never remember the third F... fruit cocktail? ferromagnets? finches?... Oh well, maybe I will remember, but... Oh dear, what were we talking about again? I guess I wasn't listening to whoever was just talking. They were just rambling on about having a revelation about Walmart selling whales and weeping horses at their saddle cafe. A real nutcase... |

Ha! I figured it was like being asked what I meant by "your". But -your- computers still arent letting me work on v8. Oh well. Maybe some day. Besides, I don't smoke. Anything. See ya. |

Well, my computers aren't, unless they are grabbing all the work units, and I don't think they are. OBW <<<< you see the volunteer tester over there? Unless you see "Project Scientist" you haven't been able to phone home! |

UNTIL YOU UNHIDE YOUR PC(S) NO ONE CAN OR WILL HELP YOU: "Computers hidden". My suspicions are that you have installed one of the customized apps (aka "Lunatics Installer"). |

UNTIL YOU UNHIDE YOUR PC(S) NO ONE CAN OR WILL HELP YOU: "Computers hidden". Sorry to disappoint you but I don't know what that is although I have seen it mentioned somewhere. And I also don't know why a customized installer would be bad. Or why it matters to anyone but me what computers I have. You can see what projects I have worked on. At least I think you can. So who cares what my computers are? And they say you should restrict whatever personal data you can online, so I chose to hide that for that exact reason, believe it or not. 8) I have also been volunteering computers for seti@home since... I'm not sure, but I got in trouble at work for it at the time, but it was attached to a work email that I dont have access to now. But I think you can see I have credits in the low thousands, not millions or kajillions like you guys, so I have no computer you'd even consider using as your cat's litterbox. 8) |

You can un-hide your through your online SETI preferences or give us a direct link to 1 of the PC's you're having problems with, seeing your PC's gives no personal information to anyone (check mine out for an example of what others see), but if they wern't hidden your problem could've been fixed days ago. If you can't do that then it's pointless for you asking for help. Cheers. |

If you can't do that then it's pointless for you asking for help. I've already responded to what I think the question is, and still haven't received a response. They seem more interested in posting noise & arguing than getting help, so i've just written this one off as a troll. Grant Darwin NT |
