Message 1837848 - Posted: 25 Dec 2016, 14:13:26 UTC - in response to Message 1837688.

Except for a cousin, My sister in law, and Her 3 grown kids, I don't have any family, outside of My cat, She's all that I have, that said, I sympathize with Grant Nelson, I don't have any GF, and in the shape that I'm in, it's highly doubtful that I ever will.

Vic tor, you can change the shape you are in..
Just as I can change the shape I am in.
The only question is whether either of us has enough will within us to do so.
I have not found it yet, and you have not either.
But, there is a chance that either of us may one day, summon up the courage and will to change our lives.

I have come to the conclusion that only God above controls my life.
It was charted from the day I was born until the day I pass.
Even these words I write were given to me eons ago and I am unable to change them.
Except for one simple fact.
God also gave me free will.
The ability to change my path with every fleeting moment.
He allows that.
And so, with that, one can do almost anything, if only one has the courage to do so.

I am still trying to find the courage.

What I was relating to was it's been so soon since she passed and this is our first Christmas apart. Oh I'll make it alright, most of us do. It's just too fresh in my mind still.

My kids are all gone on their life's adventure and that's the way it should be. But I still have feelings being 1000's of miles away from any of them.

I was thinking of getting a dog for company which might be a good thing.
My GF dog was too hyper for me to have here so I'll have to start from scratch.

I guess this is what one calls the Christmas blues.

Yep, and Cats are easy to care for, too easy, My sister in laws cat Annabelle treats Me like Grace does, She's a Siamese cat(brown feet, tail, and paws, tan everywhere else) and I'm only there 2 times a year.

Me I'm stuffed like a turkey, with turkey inside, I went back for seconds, My sister in law and My niece made a wonderful dinner and homemade pies from scratch, I brought some home with Me, enough for 2 days I think.

Did I say I'm stuffed? I meant, I'm a bit miserable. Sorry no pics of the food, maybe on Monday.

Well the Lions Club but on a real nice feed. not a stuffing amount like yours but enough to call it the full belly dellie anyway. I'm too crazy about Turkey and never was but everything else was great.

I still have a whole apple pie to tackle tomorrow. I thought I could today but I waved that one off since I'm still full. LOL

I had 4 antacid tablets and a mug of DHMO, I'm feeling better now, and Grace is happy that I've returned to Her.

Christmas is always a poignant time of year for those that live on their own. It behoves us that are more fortunate to acknowlege that. These are the times when boards and forums take on a more useful role.

Cata are better for the more elderly age challenged as they don't need walking on a lead :-) Nor do they eat as much as a dog. Mind you try telling that to our cat that is a veritable walking dustbin on 4 legs!

One day, about 15 years ago, an ex GF came into my house and woke me by tossing two kittens on my face.........
Life ain't been the same since. She and I parted a LONG time ago.
One kitty, Tigger, passed at only 5-1/2 years from genetic kidney failure after I nursed her for 9 months.
The other was my dear Squirrel, who passed after 18 and a half years of giving me her love and joy.
Then, one day she did it again..................her name was Susan, by the way.

The trio of kitties were tossed at me.
Tigger the second, Bandit, and Purrball.
Tigger II I lost to cancer earlier this year./
And that was a fight that nearly took me out as well.

Bandit and Purrball remain as my companions.
I am going to be lost when either of them goes.
But at that point, I am going to have to evaluate whether I have enough life and love left inside me to adopt another.
And that might be a difficult question to ask myself.
Would it be right to adopt another kitty if I am not sure that I could live long enough to care for her forever?
Cats can live a long time, and I don't know that I shall.
Purrball simply adores me. Never known such love even from Lori.......unconditional love.
Lori loves me, make no mistake about that. But there are always arguments, conditions, requirements I am supposed to meet for that love to continue.
Not so with the cats. All they require is a full bowl of kibble and the water dish. And they just give back more than they take. Always.

I shall attempt to remedy things with Lori. But, if that don't play out, I still have the cats..........................for they shall never deny me their love and affection. Ever. Not ever.

And one day, a little kitty may come calling into my life. Or would that be crawling into my life.
I am already registered at the humane society where I go once in a while to donate some resources.
Like years ago when we dropped off a half a ton of kitty food in a pickup truck.
You do remember that?

I can take one home any time I choose to.
And I have been so tempted at times, but it has just not been the right time yet.
One day it shall be the right time./

Angels with fur. Yup, that's what they are.

@Mark
I agree with you. My last two chihuahuas were not chosen by me. They were left for too long in my care. And became attached to me. Through the years I was with them. I came to be their #1 in there life circle. It was hard to say goodbye in the autumn of their lives. I am with you in thought about whether to adopt another. I know I have enough life left to do it. But for now I feel not up to the challenge to be the #1 in a voyage of friendship with a furry little one.

Very sadly I doubt that the cruel breeders would go away - many of them these days work on line rather than through pet shops. Also they use the "postcard in the shop window" approach, cute picci of little Tibbles latest litter, mobile phone number. The other thing that should be burried for ever are many of the "breed clubs" - these so call animal welfare societies have so distorted the shape of the dog (and cats?) they demand as being "to the breed standard" that the animals suffer for human vanity - Pugs and the like with airways so distorted they are unable to breathe properly, and many other deformed so called "dogs to breed standard" that they have a short ad painful life.

One does indeed stand a far better chance of getting a good pet dog, or cat, from a rescue centre. But be careful, take a long time, look carefully, and don't dive for the first "cute ball of fur", or the most emaciated hound you see. Look, think, consider, watch, listen. The go away and come back a few days later having thought about what you've seen, and maybe do this a few times before making that decision. It is worth checking on the rescue centre's policy on "try before you commit" - will they let you take the animal home for a few days to see it really does get on with you, not forgetting that many animals will not settle for a couple of days in unfamiliar surroundings.

I agree with Suzie that if anyone decides to get a cat or a dog, then please go to a shelter to adopt one. Please DO NOT buy one from a pet shop. If we all did this the pet shop trade would die out and with it the cruel breeders that supply them.

Agreed Chris, getting either from a shelter is a good idea, Pet Shops? For fish, maybe, supplies? Sure, but not dogs or cats.

I called the animal shelter and asked them how much they wanted, they told me $190. I was thinking that's a lot when your trying to give these animals a home. I paid only $10 before.

I didn't want to buy the kennel just an animal. LOL

Grace cost Me $10.00, plus a tank of gas for the car(12 gallons) in 2010, I had to make 2 trips to the Apple Valley CA animal shelter, one to adopt, one to pickup since surgery was not needed, seems I got a retread who was left to wander on Her own for a while.

Now I suspect She has gone blind.

Like in Her box, I have to do somethings for Her, food in Her bowl, I have to put Her over the food before She'll eat, not following My hand like She used to.

If her eyes are cloudy, she could be suffering from cataracts. This is treatable through cataract removal. It is a simple procedure; my dad has had this done on both of his own eyes. I don't know what a vet would charge for Grace, though... I hope that cataracts are all that it is, I would hate to know that she's just up and gone blind...

God bless, Vic.

That's the thing, Her eyes look ok, meaning dark as midnight, I know what cataracts look like, My dad had them.

She doesn't always cover stuff, sometimes She'll cover part of it, and then paw at the lid to the bin, thinking She's done, when She's not even close to being done, this happens day or night. So I have to get the tool down and cover the rest Myself.

There has to be a reason Vic. Please get Grace checked by a vet.
We all love her here, Vic.
