I like cashews, but I never buy them, I just have a few over at the relatives once or twice a year. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I like cashews, but I never buy them Back when I was in college at U of L, I had a friend whose mother worked for a place that gave her free bags of honey-roasted peanuts(and maybe cashews, I don't remember). We used to sit in front of the library feeding the squirrels. They loved them, but I doubt it was really good for them. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

We spent most of the afternoon in the yard today. While we were out there we saw a fledgling robin, and we also saw the same in a magpie. It is only May so with any luck the summer birds may get three sets of chicks into the sky this year. Amazing! :):) |

We spent most of the afternoon in the yard today. Eric and I have been out of town since Thursday, but we got home in time to spend some time in our yard as well. I saw a shrike chase a crow away. That was pretty impressive as the crow was much bigger than the shrike and probably much smarter. That little shrike was amazingly aggressive. Eric fixed the drip system to my vegetable garden and we finally put in a row of beans. I had already put in some zucchini, patty-pan squash, tomatoes, jalipeno peppers and a cucumber, but I was waiting to put in the first row of beans until Eric had time to fix our drip system. In a month or so, we will put in a second crop of beans. I like to stagger the rows for continuous production. I still need to put in a patch of basil, so that I can make pesto, but once that is done all that will be left to do is pull weeds and harvest delicious summer vegetables. I can't wait!!! |

Lots of birds' nests at the museum this spring. There was one with four eggs in it on one of the cars, but the mother seems to have abandoned it after the train operated all day. Another is on the sill of a window above a closed-off door on the depot; she was there almost constantly all weekend, fluffed up to keep her eggs warm. There seems to be one as well actually up inside the roof; even though the building is not heated, the better shelter must have kept them warmer because there was a lot of cheeping from there yesterday. There seemed to be an awful racket outside our first floor window, which upon investigation turned out to be sparrows nesting in the wooden compartment between gutter, wall and roof. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |
