I have two problems running SETI@Home. First, I can't get any S@H V.8 WUs. I tried stopping the pop-up blocker and the firewall to no avail. I know they powers that be were introducing the new version slowly, but it seems lots of people have gotten W.U.s so I'm wondering of I have not done something that I need to do. I am using Windows 7 on an AuthenticAMD AMD A6-6400K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics [Family 21 Model 19 Stepping 1] (2 processors) AMD AMD Radeon HD 7400/7500/8300/8400 series (Scrapper) (768MB) driver: 1.4.1848 OpenCL: 1.2 Any advice? Secondly, I crunched classic S@H for a long time with several other computers before this one, using several email addresses. But all that work was lost when I opened this account. When I tried to follow the instructions to claim old credits, I got the following message: "This e-mail address (........@......) belongs to an active BOINC account, so we can't transfer its credit to your account." But I have not used that email for at least 5 years and it no longer exists. When I entered the email address I used before that one, it said no such address exists. How can I convince BOINC that the first email is defunct, that the previous one was really valid about 10 years ago and to transfer the old credits from these accounts to my new (5 year-old) account? I would appreciate any assistance on these thorny problems. Steve Gaber Oldsmar, FL |

First, I can't get any S@H V.8 WUs. That's because you've only got set to receive work for the GPU. At the moment here at Seti only work is available for the CPU, the GPU applications are still being tested at Seti Beta. If you do want to run v8 work, you have to tell Seti in the Seti project preferences https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project under your account, to use the CPU. Make sure to edit those preferences, else the check boxes don't work. When I tried to follow the instructions to claim old credits, I got the following message: "This e-mail address (........@......) belongs to an active BOINC account, so we can't transfer its credit to your account." The previous points can only be transferred to one BOINC account. Only one previous account's points can be transferred to a BOINC account. When Seti changed to BOINC around 2005, it attributed all active email addresses at the time in the classic database to a BOINC account, so all you ever had to do was log in with such an email address and you could've claimed it. If there is now no way for you to reach any of the email addresses, nothing can be done about it. The old points don't get translated into credits, they stay as a memento on the account. |

Thanks, Mr. Ageless. I tried to follow the limited instructions to allow V.8 to proceed checked the box to "Use CPU", but had no success. Possibly due to my general computing ineptitude, but if they want people to participate, they should have more complete and lucid instructions for Bozos like me. I'd take any kind of W.U.s - Why can't I get anymore Astropulse ones? Steve Gaber |

AstroPulse are only split when into the splitter queue, so if no new tapes then no new AstroPulse tasks... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I tried to follow the limited instructions to allow V.8 to proceed checked the box to "Use CPU", but had no success. Go to your account: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/home.php Click on Preferences for this project SETI@home preferences: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project Scroll down and click Edit preferences. Check Use CPU. Make sure that on Run only the selected applications AstroPulse v7 and SETI@home v8 are checked. Click the Update preferences button. BOINC will pick up these preferences automatically when it next contact the project. As already said, Astropulse is not always available. It's only split when new 'tapes' are inserted. You can see the status of that on the Seti server status page: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html, which shows if work is being split for Astropulse and if so, from how many sources. At the moment of typing, APs aren't being split. |

[quote] Well, I modified my SETI Preferences per your instructions. Lo and behold, I received EIGHT Astropulse WUs and my computer already processed and submitted two of them. YYaaaayyy.
