They have military projects and inertial nuclear fusion projects, all financed by the US Govt. Speaking of fusion, theregister.co.uk reports the advances made by Chinese scientists on their EAST tokamak, which they contrast to the ITER project which is 6 years behind schedule and has cost so far 14 billion euros.

I don't understand how a laser would be a very effective means of signaling across vast distances. It's such a narrow beam I would think it would get blocked by something before it went very far.

I think you can point it to a target better than a radar beam.

Where is the fun of it?

Should I check my most recent tasks for any new results?

Remember the mentioned posting about secrets when it comes to certain types of communications and their possible accessibility.

Some types of information related to either politics or military are classified.

Typically being either Restricted, Confidential, or Secret, or higher, some types of information are either Confidential or Strictly Confidential when it comes to sensitivity, which could need an even higher level of clearance.

The Arecibo Telescope is not an unmanned installation. There are operators located in building facilities nearby.

If for some reason a strong radio signal should be detected, it would not neccessarily have to be processed by the Seti@home client.

Then we might perhaps ask ourselves which rights these operators might have when it comes to doing certain things.

An event could possibly happen which might create or initiate a possible response or reply.

We happen to be listening or eavesdropping, but if E.T. happens to exist, he or she would most likely be more advanced than ourselves.

Would it then be more likely that E.T. would possibly take the first step when it comes to making first contact and if so what should the response be if such a thing would happen?

The Earth is a habitable place. What if someone else came from outer space looking for a place to be living or settle down and next find that this place already is being inhabited, this time by ourselves?

Such a possible visit might well have happened in the past, but with the end result that the visitors chose to leave after making a possible decision about whether or not to stay in order to next making contact.

If this ever happened, possibly there might have been some disappointment as well and if so, such a thing makes me think about the classic movie "Encyclopedia Galactica".

ET would have the same motivation as Humanity for finding other places to live. It is Cosmic folly for a form of life to exist on just one planet or only one planetary system. Those lifeforms, along with their civilizations could become extinct very easily by a wayward asteroid, a gamma ray burster or the system star going nova.

These events happen daily in the Universe and logically an intelligent species would seek to 'put their eggs in more than one basket' if they have the resources, technological expertise and willingness to devote many eons to the effort.

You probably know that I had a couple of introductory courses at the local University in town before ending up with a two year computer semester which became slightly extended.

Not to say that such places are bad places, but here in town the academic studies being available fell short of the Technical High School, which is a National school and therefore having a couple of large building structures.

After starting up here today, I looked up the elliptical galaxy NGC 3115 in Sextans using sky-map.org

Being familiar with this galaxy I have not had a closer look at the surrounding field nearby.

But when next zooming out, there is also a dwarf galaxy nearby, PGC 29653 which could be closer to the Milky Way.

This one became new to me and such a thing does not happen often now.

Comparing these galaxies with each other only shows that diversity is the result of both age and evolution.

A brain cell, which more should be regarded as a being a neuron, is the part of our brain which is responsible for storing and transmitting information.

A neuron, which is a brain cell is responsible for our intelligence by means of storing information and also transmitting such information by means of connecting or linking them together.

Ordinary blood cells, both red and white, are not having any intelligence on their own, but at least we should be thankful to those macrophages which are keeping us healthy.

Also the short article about blood cells in the Wikipedia is mentioning Megakaryocyte as well, which also became a new term and needs a lookup.

I will get back to this later on.

Again our knowledge of intelligence should be compared only with what we happen to know about ourselves and the nature we are part of.

One thing is the diversity being found in nature and such a thing should not be contradicted or argued against at all.

Another way of making certain thoughts about nature is having a belief that creation and destruction are living side by side in the same way as bacteria and viruses are part of nature and not necessarily for the good all the time.

In the world of plants and animals, from Paleontology which I have some knowledge about, I also looked up Botanics in the Wikipedia right now, which is a good article.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleontology

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botany

A couple of interesting illustrations when scrolling down that article.

So, while the Earth is mostly a hospitable place for life to exist, why are we still having the Van Allen radiation belt surrounding the Earth?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Allen_radiation_belt

This belt is a field containing possible lethal radiation and therefore a place not to stay.

Which relationship there might be between those Northern Lights and the Van Allen belt, if any, I do not know right now and also this became new information which needs a little more reading.

Please have me excused, but if you happen to be skeptical, OzzFan, why rather not believe in the existence of God rather than the possible existence of extraterrestrial intelligence.

If I happen to be having a certain knowledge about astronomy, does such a thing makes me possibly biased when it comes to certain things?

Or are we back to the fact that certain values when it comes to scientific achievements are supposedly based on given assumptions about certain things as they happen to be either known or perhaps not so?

If we are supposed to be looking for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence, are we supposed to be doing such a thing in the same way as we happen to be able to tell about certain things about nature being mentioned in the links provided above?

Or is another, different approach rather needed, because this happens to be more about space and its environment.

Is that something you really should bother about?

Please check this page.

The largest single contributor to this project is having a credit of 1,725,419,654 and have made three postings here.

Most likely a signal has been detected from our workunits and communication with other entities have probably already taken place.

For now there is no confirmation about this being true however and like myself as well as others, for now we are left to speculate.

Down to you Ozz.

When he says something that actually resembles an intelligent comment, I might actually reply if I thought I would get anymore more than a Turing response.

Thank you for that suggestion, OzzFan.

Could also have said presence rather than existence in the previous post, at least when it comes to the subject of extraterrestrials.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA

Looking up the subject, I am not familar with the details, but have some knowledge about what it is about.

We should be able to make a difference between ourselves both when it comes to our presence as being humans and a product of biological and neurological processes.

Not everything that is happening in our right part brain are being completely understood or investigated, but there may be some indication that some of these processes are based on principles for which there are no simple answers.

Since there is no proof of any extraterrestrial intelligence, we are left to speculate whether such intelligence could in fact exist and if so, they rather could be machines or robots, where intelligence is only part of their functionality.

We are making such tools here on Earth for a given purpose. Because such tools are either mechanical, technical, or electronical, it always becomes something else than what we happen to be ourselves.

One thing not being forgotten when it comes to myself is an intelligence test which is being carried out when joining the military as a recruit.

This test is a rather clever one and I was not able to give a correct answer to every question being asked.

Such examples should have been readily available, because it may help determine how clever you are supposed to be when it comes to certain things.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megakaryocyte

Not directly related, but earlier mentioned, this cells in our body became new knowledge. They are part of the body for a given functionality and purpose in mind and are not part of the thinking process or intelligence which is being associated with the brain.

Maybe I should add something more as well, but rather should be posted in the Cafe at some other time of day.
