And for those claiming "Can't be done"... Note that we've had greater cultural shifts here in the UK with such as the introduction of driving tests and driving licenses, no drink-driving, and no smoking in venues or in the workplace or in public places. Our world is much better for that.

I was just reading that, and thinking how many firearms would be handed in if the US did the same at the same ratio of firearms:population. So I did the sums.

NZ arms handed in * Population of US ÷ Population of NZ = US arms handed in

56,000 * 330,015,827 ÷ 4,802,203 = 3,848,418

The number of "modern sporting rifles" in the US is estimated to be between 15 and 20 million. So only 20% to 25% would be taken out of circulation.
