Police have named the suspect as 28-year-old Ian David Long, who had suspected mental health issues.
Officials believe the US Marine Corps veteran and local resident took his own life inside the bar.

Former Marine (so weapons-trained at the state's expense)
Legal gun
Illegal extended capacity magazine

Not a good combination.

We still await the first reports on his social media activity.

Long joined the Marines in 2008 and rose to the rank of corporal before leaving active service in 2013, Joseph Butterfield, a Marine spokesman, wrote in an email.

He served in the war in Afghanistan for seven months beginning in late 2010, the Marine Corp said, and was awarded multiple ribbons, commendations and medals.

A Felony

Not a good combination.

We still await the first reports on his social media activity.

At a news conference on Thursday, Sheriff Geoff Dean said police had responded to a minor disturbance call at Long’s house in April.

“He was somewhat irate, acting a little irrationally,” Dean said. The police called in a team of mental health specialists who decided that Long did not qualify to be involuntarily detained for mental health evaluation under state law.

There was the missed chance to stop it.

I don't think I'd want to chair the first staff meeting in the New Year.

Ironically, there would be much less risk if it was literally just for "starters". :^)

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-chicago-shooting/multiple-people-shot-near-chicago-hospital-including-police-officer-idUSKCN1NO2JI
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Chicago police responded to a shooting near a city hospital on Monday afternoon in which there were reports of multiple victims, said Anthony Guglielmi, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

It was not clear whether anyone was killed in the incident near Mercy Hospital on Chicago’s South Side. Among the victims was a male police officer who was in critical condition but receiving treatment, Guglielmi said.

Police were searching the hospital and at least one “possible offender” had been shot, Guglielmi said.

Sue Jimenez, the manager of Kozy’s Cyclery bike shop near the hospital, said she heard multiple gunshots separated by pauses. At one point, she heard five shots in quick succession, she said, but the shooting stopped after police arrived.

I can already see them trying to impose greater gun restriction after this...

.......the only thing left is making it illegal to have thoughts about a gun within the City Limits.......

Gun free zones are a JOKE. And the victims caught in them are the punchline.

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Police responding to a fight inside an Alabama shopping mall shot and killed a man who had brandished a weapon, authorities said Friday. Two other people were injured, including a 12-year-old girl.

The Hoover Police Department said in a statement that two men were engaged in a “physical altercation” at the glitzy Riverchase Galleria in Hoover late Thursday, when one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot the other man twice.

Two officers who were providing security at the mall heard the gunfire and approached the area. They spotted a suspect waving a pistol and shot him. He died at the scene. The Jefferson County coroner’s office identified him as 21-year-old Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford, Jr. of Hueytown.

The other shooting victim was an 18-year-old male from Birmingham. He was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition. A 12-year-old bystander was also shot and taken to Children’s Hospital by a Hoover Fire Department rescue squad.

A shooting at a New Jersey mall on Friday evening sparked chaos in the shopping center as Black Friday shoppers streamed out of the building.

A man was shot in the wrist in the hallway near the Marshall’s and Tommy Hilfiger stores at the Jersey Gardens shopping mall in Elizabeth at about 8 p.m., the city’s mayor said reported.

The mall was evacuated after the shooting, Mayor Chris Bollwage said.

As for good guys with guns, they also get shot by police too.

Alabama mall gunman still at large after police say armed man killed by officer 'likely did not fire' shots.

Police initially said Bradford opened fire after an altercation with the 18-year-old and an officer fatally shot him as he fled the scene. But late Friday, police changed that story, saying that while Bradford was involved in "some aspect of the altercation" and was armed with a handgun, he likely did not fire the rounds that injured the two others.
"We regret that our initial media release was not totally accurate, but new evidence indicates that it was not," Rector said.
So it doesn't pay to be a "good guy with a gun".
