@moomin I suggest Surströmming (fermented herring).*retreat behind jellied eel* That'll teach you ;) @Clyde The foundation of JE's post is that banning cars from certain locations will not stop similar terrorism in other places. But where did anyone say it would? Obviously - if you prefer the areas of London that draw the most tourists to them, Americans included, to be lovely soft and enticing targets - then by all means, let Sadiq know. Maybe removing some of the protections we already have in place, possibly even those that remain from when the IRA were taking their grievances out on London could be added to your list... if you're that concerned about our "freedom" :) but I don't think you really are. My point was that more people die in London from air pollution than from terrorism. And I much prefer government that reacts with an intention to make places safer, than one that pre-empts against all its citizens on suspicion, like, for example, Egypt is doing. But now I'm way off topic. @JE I'm sorry anniet missed the sarcasm fontDon't be :) It's probably the quantity of fish being hurled about anyway. The toilet plunger didn't help either. It got me thinking about the poor unfortunate man in Russia recently, who slipped in his bathroom and impaled his eye (and ergo his head) on a toilet brush. So yes - objects can kill people... and really quite horribly - but I do get your point. People do kill people, but banning people isn't a remedial solution that works either. Not practicably anyway. Yet... someone did... |

If I get a moment, I'll check out those figures for you, JE - it's just, the original source looks a bit... well... iffy... ;) |

@moomin I see:) Probably that's why my father, a former naval officer, liked eels so much, both as a delight and as a countermeasure. Actually a traditional food from the most southern part of Sweden where he camed from. |

https://www.berkeleyside.com/2018/08/18/berkeley-police-at-least-3-people-shot-at-san-pablo-park Berkeley police and firefighters responded to San Pablo Park in South Berkeley on Saturday to help three men who had been shot, authorities report. Police said shortly after 9 p.m. that all three are expected to survive — despite serious or critical injuries in two instances. |

re: The United States having the third-highest rate of homicides worldwide, but drops dramatically in the rankings if four major cities are excluded from the stats... Mostly false. (Thank you again Snopes.) In fact the U.S. murder rate per capita is not so high at all, only when compared to other industrialized, wealthy nations. It isn't third in the world... it's 87th with 5.35 per 100,000 per annum, even counting Chicago et al. By contrast El Salvador is 82.84! However most people overestimate the U.S. homicide rate due to U.S. mass shootings making world news for weeks... |

I don't even bother checking the memes conservatives post anymore, 99.999% are pants on fire, but they base their government on these lies. @Mr. K., your signature graphic is 404. |

Why bond ($250,000) was even set on the latest offence for this low life is beyond me. Other than "What do you expect with lucky dip gun ownership in the US" Till they press the trigger no one knows if they are nuts, by then it's too late..Thank you Mr John Howard (former PM of Australia) for banning guns in this Great Country, I can at least walk to my mail box and still be alive.. |

Of the four people killed, one was the shooter(which was NOT pointed out by your post), of a SELF INFLICTED gunshot......so now he's included as a 'murder victim'. A disgruntled loser in a video game tournament opens fire on the other contestants..............too bad it wasn't a 'First Person Shooter Video Game' tournament then the real impetus behind such violent acts would be readily apparent. The venue should have been secured with at least metal detectors at the entrance. But I guess declaring it a 'Gun Free Zone' prevented the crime.........oh wait, it didn't. The gun violence epidemic in America is entrenched and promoted minute by minute by these very video games, and music, and graphic novels, and movies, and television. 24/7/365 the youth are exposed to these vile philosophies, that seeking vengeance or power by shooting another person is acceptable. No wonder those on the edge employ it at ANY provocation. And no wonder 100 million American Citizens choose to own firearms in the event that philosophy 'comes for us'. I can at least walk to my mail box and still be alive.. So can I sir, without a government mandate that if I need to protect myself and my family, I can. Nothing is going to overturn the 1st Amendment, of which the 2nd Amendment is part and will protect the 1st if needed. Your government confiscation of firearms is WHY we have a 2nd Amendment, not to protect us from alien invasion, to protect us from our own government and those evil minds bent on violence. JE is correct... here are the "Rules of Conduct" at Jacksonville Landing where the shooting happened Possession of a weapon, even if legally carried (except by law enforcement officers) is absolutely prohibited on Landing property This link was embedded in the NRA spokesperson's tweet. |

JE is correct... here are the "Rules of Conduct" at Jacksonville Landing where the shooting happened Well, what do you know, a lawyer wrote something up to paper the investment company's rear. A "rule." It isn't like it is a "law" or something actually enforceable. I guess if they had security they could ask you politely to leave if you started waving it around. Oh wait, "A violation of these rules may result in expulsion from the property" |

How does the NRA think someone who has been put into mental hospitals twice should own a gun? https://apnews.com/a339766552364058b2954590c63c538d |
