JPP - BOINC is the environment in which SETI@Home operates, and the version numbers of BOINC and SETI@Home are independent of each other. BOINC v7.6.22 is the current version. Currently the only work that is being produced is SETI@Home MB v8 for CPU, AstroPulse v7 (most of which appears to be for GPUs). There is re-distribution of "failed" MB v7 work, but this is rare. I have not been able to recieve any new tasks for the last few days, ever since i updated to Boinc 7.6.22 (The Seti@Home 8.0 that this may invoke is not visible to us.) I tried to go back to the previous version of BOINC but this did not help. Why cant Seti@Home do a better job of vetting their software?? It was working! Boinc 7.6.22 (The Seti@Home 8.0 that this may invoke is not visible to us.) It's two different things. BOINC is the managing program, it is currently at version 7.6.22 Seti@Home is the running program, it is currently at various stages of version 8. You will get the version 8 Seti@Home science application sent automatically if you use stock applications. For the moment they're only available for the CPU, GPU and Android applications are being tested at Seti Beta and will be available in due time. Why cant Seti@Home do a better job of vetting their software?? It was working! Again, difference of perspective. And stupid perhaps again that both BOINC and Seti change to newer versions of their software at around the same time, but as long as you know what the difference is, it shouldn't matter. As to why Seti released a new application, this one has some functionality fixes over its predecessor, and is capable of running data from multiple sources. So that is nice for when the data from the Green Bank Telescope and possibly other telescopes becomes available. Seti 8 applications can be seen at https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/apps.php, scroll to the bottom of the page. Seti 8 work availability is seen in http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html |

Thank you Jord for your response but I am still unable to get new tasks for the last several days and am not sure how to proceed. A third relatively recent change is that i updated my OS to Windows 10 several weeks go. (under which Seti ran fine .. I think) How can I verify that I am running Seti@Home v.8.0 ? When I view my account and lookup the Details of my laptop (Seti CPU 7333685), I only see references to Set@Home v.7 7.00. Thanks. |

When I look at your task list (https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7333685), I see your computer got 17 v8 CPU tasks. If you don't see those in BOINC Manager, check settings. For instance, in BOINC Manager Advanced view, Tasks tab, if you see a Show all tasks button in the Commands menu, click it to change to a view showing all tasks in cache and in progress. Most buttons in BOINC show the option you have, not the state it is in. |

Thank you again for your quick response.. Well the answer is yes and no: "YES", I have been assigned 17 new 8.0 tasks but "NO" because they are 0.0% downloaded. My computer has been attempting to Download them about once every 5 minutes for days (my "statistics" tab shows that virtually nothing has been happening since Jan 3, 2016). The "Transfer" Tab, says that during all this time I Boinc has been trying to download "setigraphics_8.00_windows_intelx86.exe" (0.4%) (0.01/2.07 MB) and "setiathome_8.00_windows_intelx86.exe" (1.18%) (0.02/1.82 MB) |

I aborted the "stuck" transfers of SetiAtHome...exe and SetiGraphics...exe several new files were then sent to me, all of which are also stuck with the exception of on Seti V7.0 Data file which did come through and immediately started to work. All else is stuck exactly as before. |

Problem Likely Solved. Aborting the "stuck" Transfers (SetiAtHome...exe, SetiGraphics...exe) followed by a reboot of the computer seems to have fixed the problem. |

1/8/2016 7:55:37 AM | | [error] Can't create HTTP response output file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome_8.00_windows_intelx86.exe Sounds like an overzealous anti virus or firewall blocking access to the new file being downloaded and saved to disk without permission. Make sure the new files can get through the firewall, and always put the BOINC data directory in an exclusive zone in the AV/firewall software. If need be, scan the folder by hand when BOINC is not running. |
