Country of origin interests me a lot, because besides my sons, born Italy and Germany. My father was born in India, and I was born in Germany and not in British Military Hospital. And as it stood my eldest would have been UK citizen whilst his brother who was born in a British Military Hospital was not. The UK has never had peacetime Military Hospitals in Italy.

There are rules and laws for this but it seems that almost every country has different ones.
Jus Soli: The right of anyone born in the territory of a state to nationality or citizenship
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_soli
Jus Sanguinis: The principle of nationality law by which citizenship is not determined by place of birth but by having one or both parents who are citizens of the state
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_sanguinis

Obama is an US citizen according to both rules.
Ted Cruz is an US citizen according to Jus Sanguinis but not to Jus Soli.

Guy, your "espousing individual freedom" actually impacts detrimentally on others around you and that is what you fail to see (or just don't want to see), but then you you don't give a damn about others as you have proved many times here before.

Clyde, you're in the same boat as Guy and it's sinking.

Both of yous are driven by selfishness with little or no compassion for others (deny it if you like but your statements prove otherwise).

Cheers.

IMO the concept of a cooperative society eludes them.

betreger, our federal government hasn't been cooperating for several decades. The cooperation was defined by our constitution, and the federal government is now ignoring most of it. Can you be more specific on what "cooperative society" means to you?

Guy, among other things taking care of those who can't take care of themselves. Rugged individualism doesn't work for them.
Social responsibility, such as don't pollute and laws to enforce that.
Building an infrastructure which benefits all such as a transportation system open to all not just those who can afford to pay for toll roads, and an education system affordable for all not just those who can afford it.
Guy which of these ideas do you object to and why?

Wiggo, I don't know why you think I want to act in a way that is detrimental to others. I don't know why you think I don't care about others.

Then you should re-read most of your posts with an open, clear & unbiased mind then (though I greatly doubt that you could do that).

Cheers.

And what category of "people" is it that you do care about this time Guy and what 1's don't you care about?

You've made a lot of statements in the past regarding this subject that you've edited them to cover your very selective ideals while you had the power to do so so please let's hear them all again.

Cheers.

The U.S's poor is the envy of the world. We take care of our poor better than any place else on the planet
This is from 2012 Guy once again the the data conflicts with your view of the world.
A new report released this week by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reveals alarming child poverty rates within affluent, or 'developed', nations. The US ranks second highest among all measured countries, with 23.1 per cent of children living in poverty, just under Romania's 25.6 per cent.

Well no worries. Texas will just forge a birth certificate for Ted Cruz if it becomes an issue like Hawaii did for Obama.

Better get in touch with your Texan forger friends, Washington Post
Trump contended that Cruz’s birth to a U.S. citizen in Canada might disqualify him from becoming president because the Constitution decrees that only a “natural born citizen” may hold the office.

“There’s a big question mark on your head. And you can’t do that to the party. You really can’t,” Trump told Cruz.

WinterKnight...

Clyde, you are aware that WinterKnight is not an American, so you need to make your comparison to the political parties in his country, not the American ones.

Yet another leak in Clyde's boat.

For the sake of simplicity here in these forums, I suggest we all adopt the terms "Freedom Party" (those who want less government) and "Slave Party" (those who want more government.)

For the sake of simplicity, I command that we all have the ability to go back and edit our posts that go further back than one hour. When doing so, they must all be edited to "--".
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.

You either want more government, or you want less government.

Guy how about neither, how about better more effective government. The world is not black or white there are lots of shades of grey. Those who only see black or white have a problem with their vision.

Liberal -- (in a political context) favouring individual liberty, free trade, and moderate political and social reform.

Democrat -- an advocate or supporter of democracy.

So that makes sense, doesn't it, someone who is in the center and prefers Democracy over other forms of government

And I guess, is probably be where you would rather be.

Do you want more or less government OR more or less laws?

The problem with the both less' option is you end up with a few people making laws and then business and the rich employ thousands of lawyers and accountants to find ways round the laws. End result - the rich get richer and you are screwed.

An smaller example of which is F1 motor racing. The FIA employs a handful of experienced engineers to make new rules and regulations and then the teams each employ hundreds of equally experienced engineers to push beyond the envelope. (F1 Mercedes team employs 700 people)

I disagree with your definition of liberals.....
In terms of 'moderate' social reform.
Most of them seem to have a 'Robin Hood' complex...take from the rich and give it to the poor.
Except as it works out, they end up robbing the MIDDLE class and give it to the poor. And the rich stay rich.

That's because you look at liberal from an American only viewpoint and not the international accepted definition.

So, I was specifically addressing US issues, and our pissant of a president here, not in your local.

I, as you obviously have not noticed, was answering a previous post, on the UK Liberal Democrat party.

Your quote of Dangerous Trump.

Cylde, why is it acceptable for you to label Trump in this way, yet you object whenever anybody else does? Surely your statement "[i]s done from a foundation of Total Stupidity and Ignorance"
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Or just your usual rant. When losing the argument?

Oh Clyde, you're the only 1 "ranting & raving" around here and digging yourself even deeper into the "losers" hole.

Maybe you should try actually posting something sensible for a change. ;-)

I can just imagine that Trump wants to be Prez just so he can push the fire button of a nuke (just like that North Korean nutter).

Cheers.
