After 15 minutes of browsing around I found the alleged downloads for Linux x64, got the files. Spent another 15 minutes trying to figure out what to do the the xml code. Modified the "app_info.xml" /usr/share/boinc-app-seti-graphics to contain the new v8 code. Copied the downloaded executable files into /usr/lib/boinc-app-seti-graphics. Restarted the service boincmgr, then rebooted for good measure. Low and behold I'm still running version 7.6.6 according to the boinc manager. Obviously, I have not modified the files correctly.

Instructions for this upgrade seem to be based on some pretty serious assumptions about the audience. Maybe... it would be helpful to provide instructions that begin without so many user assumptions and simply provide a more complete set of instructions. IMHO.

7.6.6 would be the version of BOINC you are running.

v8 is the newest release of SETI, designed to allow us to process work from other telescopes.

Most Linux repositories have newer BOINC versions. Because of problems with wxWidgets 3.0 not being compatible with some libraries in various Linux distros, the BOINC developers have for the moment given up on trying to build a working BOINC 7.6 for Linux.

Package maintainers and volunteers for various distros have since managed to build new BOINC versions, with newer wxWidgets libraries. The official stance on this by the developers of BOINC is that it's easier for package maintainers to build working BOINC versions for their distros than it is for them to try and keep up.

Especially also now that development for BOINC has changed, from three paid developers, to all volunteers.

Running Linux Mint 17.2

I can't find Version 8 graphics package anywhere. Any ideas? I can run V8 tasks, but only options I can find for graphics is in the V7 series.

Thanks for your help!
