I guess they are starting out even younger............

Most car reviews show how fast it can go as in 0 to 60 in xx seconds. Well...

60 to 0 in 6 seconds

That's a very good example of how fast something can happen on the road.

Video's like that should be made compulsory viewing for those caught playing with mobiles on the roads.

Senate Panel Approves Legislation That Would Put a Hell of A Lot More Self-Driving Cars on US Roads

The US Senate Commerce Committee has unanimously approved a bill that would prevent states from creating laws that regulate development and performance of self-driving cars and help put more autonomous vehicles on public roads.

Within three years, the bill would allow auto manufacturers to sell 80,000 autonomous vehicles annually as long as they are demonstrably as safe as regular cars. Before then, automakers can sell 15,000 self-driving cars the first year, and 40,000 cars the second year. The initial bill put the three-year cap at 100,000 cars, but the number was revised to 80,000 after negotiations.

Currently there is no national law permitting driverless cars on roads, and some companies that are experimenting with self-driving cars are operating in legal gray zones.

Google’s parent company Alphabet, Ford Motors, and General Motors are some of the companies lobbying for this legislation.

Dashboard Devices Causing More Distracted Driving: AAA

A new study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that infotainment centers included in the dashboards of our cars are causing more distracted driving.

The AAA study found that the technology built into the car including voice or touch screen navigation can distract drivers from the road for more than 40 seconds.

Out of the 30 new 2017 models that were tested, 2/3 of them had built-in technology systems that were rated as "highly" distracting.

Out of the 30 cars tested, none of them received an acceptable score, meaning, all of the systems demanded the driver's attention away from the road for an extensive amount of time.

Looks like those school buses are a real lot stronger than SUV's.

Too much cheese lands van man in pickle with police
A van driver was pulled over by police as he had too much cheese on board.

Officers found the vehicle had about 2,822lb (1,280kg) of cheese inside, in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire on Monday.

The driver was left in a pickle as the van was 41% over its legal weight limit, police said. Officers said the cheese had to be "removed or eaten".

During a grilling, the driver was allowed to take some of the dairy produce away but made to call in another van to take the excess.

It is not yet known exactly which varieties of cheese had grated with police.

Man charged after 'chaotic' truck crash in NSW.

A man who allegedly stole a semi-trailer in New South Wales and led police on a 100 kilometre chase before ramming into parked cars, injuring eight people, has been charged with a raft of offences.

Took long enough

It needs to be done. Its a pity that it's after the event rather than an increase in traffic police to discourage people from taking risks in the first place.

The line that caught my attention was

A new offence of causing serious injury through careless driving is also to be created.

I have never understood why if someone does not die the offender seems to get away with nothing worse than a slapped wrist.

I was involved in a serious accident and 6 months later watched the person that caused the accident walk out of court having been given 6 points and a £200 fine.

I had my licences medically revoked and it took 20 months and a disability assessment to regain my car and bike licences and a further 10 months with a major argument and threats to take DVLA to court to regain my HGV licences. (DVLA wanted to keep my HGV licences for a minimum of 7 years)

The reason given for my restrictions by DVLA was an "increased epilepsy risk" due to the head injury I had received. (fractured skull with an acute subdural haematoma)

YES the penalties given out by DVLA for being injured are way more severe than those given by the courts for causing the accidents.
