Chris that's a " right of passage" in this country at least , go to Orwell m/c and get a " big bore " kit and things like that , but that was in "my" day , bikes are like cars nowadays , all electronic / " nosic bank " to tell you what the problem is and very little you can modifiy ( unless you know how ;-) ) Well, this one must have been modified. Moped doing 90mph? Not much one can do about whacko's like this |

I & many others in the transport industry could never fathom out the bottleneck at Bar Hill. Just after the turning for Maddingley American war memorial / Cemetary , that's a dead straight piece of road but it's always seams to move at a snails pace what ever time you're there ( Westbound worser than East ) Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

Barring any accidents, there are a few time slots where it's not that slow. 11am-1pm, 2:30pm to 4pm & (mostly) after 8pm. |

I & many others in the transport industry could never fathom out the bottleneck at Bar Hill. The A14 which I have traveled too many times in the 90's going out to Felixstowe and Martlesham, cannot be described as an interesting journey. |

Maybe not interesting as a scenic journey, but very interesting on a driving level :-) Several years ago heading to Ipswich, we hit an accident near Stowmarket. Inching past a car, the driver was putting makeup on with her right hand, using a mobile with her left, & steering the car with her knees. Seeing us shake our heads, she gave us the "bird". Sad thing was that she was in her 40's so should have known better. |

Now this is something you don't see everyday in the UK Somerset freight derailment causes severe disruption I suspect there will be a few answers required as to how that happened. |

What a sorry state of affairs :-( "He said: "You give them dashcam footage, you give them all the evidence. I wonder what it takes to get somebody prosecuted? " Ramming |

Not the usual form of transportation for this thread - but how on earth did this happen? Hong Kong escalator malfunction - runs at high speed in reverse direction |

Not the usual form of transportation for this thread - but how on earth did this happen? I wouldn't be surprised if the drive unit failed due to all that weight and gravity did the rest. Cheers. |

Not the usual form of transportation for this thread - but how on earth did this happen? That makes sense, it did seem to slow down towards the end of the video as its load lightened. |

Haven't escalator manufacturers got around to inventing safety brakes yet? Lifts / elevators have had them for over a century and a half. From Wikipedia:That makes sense, it did seem to slow down towards the end of the video as its load lightened. Not the usual form of transportation for this thread - but how on earth did this happen?I wouldn't be surprised if the drive unit failed due to all that weight and gravity did the rest. In 1852 Elisha Otis invented the safety elevator, which automatically comes to a halt if the hoisting rope breaks. After a demonstration at the 1854 New York World's Fair the elevator industry was on its way. |

So no safety catch to make sure it operates in one direction only. Most escalators are able to run in either direction. looking at the speed it was unloading people, i suspect the drive connection to the stairs failed- if the motor was still connected, without power it would tend to act as brake. A quick search shows that there are escalator safety brakes. I suspect that installation would be one of the super special deal Chinese ones. Extra cheap because it doesn't come with all the bits you might usually expect... Grant Darwin NT |

So no safety catch to make sure it operates in one direction only. Exactly as probably being Chinese in manufacture they copied an escalator that was only meant to carry half the weight of that 1. ;-) Cheers. |

The plot thickens. Hong Kong escalator malfunction: Two men arrested The escalator had been shut down and all personnel involved in the investigation were ordered not to touch it. |

The plot thickens. Hong Kong escalator malfunction: Two men arrested So in other words, a cheap copy that couldn't handle the load that was exerted on it and now a couple of innocents are being waterboarded for the incompetent failure of their bosses instead. Cheers. |
