The autostrada should have been closed while they worked on the bridge. I remember many works on bridges were done by night on the Milano-Mestre A4. There were no accidents.

“I immediately called the police but they asked if anyone was injured when I said no they would not come out so made us an appointment to make a statement today. I told them not to bother, how would they know if the driver was drunk or drugged days after the event? "

Funny though how they often ask for the public to assist them on big issues :-)

Yes they do. This was a relatively small issue.

If you have a personal problem with the Peterborough police force would you take it elsewhere please. I am sure that Borough Commander, Superintendent Melanie Dales, would be pleased to hear from you.

Peterborough police

You need to take a chill pill:

Had that been me and my wife, I'd have moved heaven and earth to see the driver in court. Not for retaliation but to prevent a possible death next time.

I thought you were linking to this one. Lancashire County Council agrees bus lane fines refund
A council has agreed to refund motorists who were fined for driving in a new bus lane with "inadequate" signage.
Lancashire County Council could face a hefty bill after 23,000 motorists were fined £1.3m on Fishergate in Preston city centre.

Anybody familiar with Preston city center will not be surprised there were 23,000 "offenders".

LOL. One would think that with such a massive cashcow, they'd get the signage right. The one I really hate is Hills Road Cambridge. The bus lane ends just one car length away from the junction for Long Road leading to Addenbrookes. Yes they have cameras & on a busy morning, it can be murder to turn left to the hospital :-(

Witnesses told the Sun Herald of Biloxi that the bus was stuck on the tracks for about five minutes before he saw the train hit it.

Sounds like a mechanical failure, where the bus was not immediately evacuated. How straight was the track? Did the train driver on a three header have time to see it and slam on the brakes? Too many questions, not enough facts.

After reading the article it may be that the road may approach at a grade such that some trucks and busses can high center.

No doubt the NTSB and the victims' lawyers will scream that if PTC had been in place, it would have warned the train that the crossing was blocked in time for it to stop. They will also scream about the unsafe design of the crossing that enables high-centering. There will be much less screaming about the bus driver's stupidity in getting stuck and even less about him not evacuating the bus immediately when it got stuck.

This was the 17th such incident since 1976.

There was already standard signage at the crossing with the symbol of a truck trailer getting stuck. Last Thursday, local police stopped yet another bus trying to cross. The mayor then ordered signs put up expressly forbidding trucks and buses from that crossing and one or two others in town. These were installed by Friday afternoon.

Did the Mayor force all GPS databases to be updated with the new restrictions?

And just how would you suggest that a local Mayor could "force" providers of Satnav databases to update immediately? GPS satellites merely tell a satnav where they are.
But it said I could use that road ... the Mayor better find a way or it will happen again and again.

There is a difference between the Sat-Nav you can use in your car and the Sat-Nav that should be used by haulage companies. Ban lorries from using car sat-navs, say councils

Sat navs are an AID to driving, they are not a replacement for eyes and common sense.
Of course they are a replacement, computers don't make mistakes! To err is human!

To really screw up takes a computer.

Sheriff's Deputies Heroically Save Jet Skiers in the Path of Cruise Ship in the Nick of Time

Skylar Penpasuglia, 19, and 20-year-old Allison Garrett of Princeton, W. Va., were frightened as their jet ski overturned in the water off Port Canaveral Saturday.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy Taner Primmer pulled the women from the water and onto his police boat as the cruise ship approached.

"The ship was very quickly approaching," he told Inside Edition. "Even if they didn't strike the ship or the ship didn't strike them, it has the potential of pulling you under and then you run into an issue of potential drowning."

I don't know about the US, but here in Australia the signage on the road Is legal, what a Navigation system tells you isn't.
If you put more faith on your Navigation system than the road signs that are physically there, then you're too dumb to be allowed to drive IMHO.

Doesn't matter if you read English or not, if you are lost, you follow the voice - turn here, signs must be wrong because you have no other option.

And that is a comment on an IQ of 100 and what schools teach.

Road signs in Europe and the UK are very similar, and in most cases should not confuse a driver. The main difference is because we drive on the correct side of the road and all the others don't and so their signs are mirrored. The exception is Ireland which uses mainly US style signs.
