I think more dangers come from drugs than alcohol. They measured the heroine content in the Po river which crosses Torino and they found a high figure. Many drivers analyzed after an accident have drugs in their blood. Tullio |

Many drivers analyzed after an accident have drugs in their blood. Alcohol has a bit more predictable result than drugs. It has a .015 percent per hour processing and removal by the human body. Drugs can remain in the body for months. As for transport safety, it's not just other road users one has to worry about. Weather has to be taken into account. East Anglia is known as the Fens for very good reason. It's is mostly flat open ground & with the weather the country experienced yesterday, the Fens experienced it's usual problems with trees etc. It also had some "slightly" expected problems as the wind speed here was measured at 74mph. 2 trucks overturned on the M11. One at the A1/A14 junction, 3 involved in an incident at Wittering & a bus overturned on the A47 (fortunately no serious injuries). One thing all road users probably never stop to think about is Emergency & Rescue crews, they're all in all weathers. |

OK that will only check for alcohol not drugs, as DIY blood tests are a total no no. But it could and should wake people up to what they are doing without maybe realising it. The police nowadays can test for Cannabis & Cocaine with a saliva test at the side of the road , it's only a indicator durgs are in your system but if you fail that they arrest you and then get a police dr to take a blood or urine test that's analised . Police roadside breatherlisers are only a indication , they take you to the police sdtation where you get to blow on " the big machine" who's results are admissable in court . Refusing to provide a breath , blood or urine sample you get banned for 12 months minimum. Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

OH, let's be honest here. You, Chris, can tell me that you have never driven home from the tavvy at more than .o8? Yeah, right. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

From the mid 70's to mid 80's we operated a "designated" driver & took turns. It got so big we ended up using a minibus which paid off dividends in that we used to take any girls in the group home to their front door. The designated driver stuck to soft drinks/coffee throughout the evening (& that paid off as well :-) ) |

Do not some countries have a ZERO alcohol limit when driving? There are some but there are problems defining zero. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_alcohol_content Alcohol (Ethanol) can also be found in some medicines and other products (mouthwash, hand sanitiser etc), and can be naturally produced in small amounts by the body after eating such things as ripe fruit. In California one can be pulled over for either alcohol or drugs for a DUI, though since I don't drink alcohol and I don't normally take drugs that can impair Me, I don't get pulled over, but then I don't give a reason to be pulled over, and I watch My rear view mirrors from time to time, just like a fighter pilot, head on a swivel, one never knows what might be coming until one sees whatever is coming. Total utter Bollox. Nowhere in the UK is it safe for the public to drive on roads at almost 100mph, for any reason whatsoever, especially just a bypass. It's a bypass, you've got to build bypasses. Bypasses are... oh you know the rest of it. If you agree this thread desperately needs to lighten up, go join Mr. Prosser at Point E. I stand by my remarks. I wasn't disagreeing, just trying to lighten up the thread. It has gotten rather hot and heavy lately. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

David, transportation safety is a serious business when peoples lives are at stake. It doesn't matter whether it is on roads, rail, or air, whether you are a driver or a passenger. The public have a right to be protected by laws that will achieve their safety. Also highlighting plain dangerous driving, will hopefully also bring it home in a different way. I don't disagree with that either. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |
