They're zones where no parking is allowed., normally Zebra (Pedestrian) Crossings & School entrances. |

A truck driver with a different attitude towards bridges :-) "The lorry on the Forth Road Bridge blew over at about 02:00 GMT. A spokesman for the bridge-operating company said the bridge was closed to HGVs at the time." oops |

And quite properly already charged with dangerous driving. |

And quite properly already charged with dangerous driving. Its what he should expect for trying to cross when when a vehicle restriction is in place. I have had to park up or divert on a number of occasions due to inclement weather conditions, or stopped to open up and tie back curtains with an empty trailer. Kevin |

And quite properly already charged with dangerous driving. This numptie really has no excuse as Currie International is based in Scotland Dumfries IIRC. He's lucky this is now a toll free bridge as I could see the Bridge Company coming after him for lost tolls ,was a toll bridge until recently. Old enough to know better(but)still young enough not to care |

While you have numpties like him & this one who think they're above the law, one will never truly have safe transport. What's the fare Cabbie? 2 Rum & Blacks please |

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/dozens-killed-boeing-747-crashes-village-n707236 A cargo jet crashed into a village near Kyrgyzstan's main airport on Monday, killing dozens of people on the ground. Why would you try and land - bust minimum altitude - if you couldn't see the runway? |

Why would you try and land - bust minimum altitude - if you couldn't see the runway? Blind faith in GPS? |

Why would you try and land - bust minimum altitude - if you couldn't see the runway? Once you are on the ground, you still have to find the taxiway ... <ed>I know different problem, worry about that one when it comes up. |

They don't use GPS for finals. They should have been coming in along the ILS glide slope, and it sounds as if he was on the low side of it. (You would be scared if you saw how many planes come in with very poor visibility - airports don't get closed becaue planes can't see to land, but because they can't see to taxi off the runway) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

They don't use GPS for finals.Depends on the airport and the approach. They should have been coming in along the ILS glide slope, and it sounds as if he was on the low side of it.Apparently that airport does have an ICAO CAT II ILS, 100 foot ceiling, 1100 foot RVR. I haven't found a plate for it, so I don't know if they have RVR measuring equipment or ground radar that would show if some idiot parked a truck in the ILS no go area and screwed up the signal. Of course the pilot or aircraft might not have been certified for CAT II operations, or many other factors we won't know about until after the investigation is finished. All we can guess now is he either got to 100 feet above the runway where he would need to see it to continue and thought he did, or just cheated a bit too much, or his instruments weren't telling him the truth about his aircraft position. I'm rather sure that aircraft would have a radar altimeter in addition to the barometric one. I suspect "get-home-itis" <ed>Found AFD plate and there are a lot of cautions on it. One being the ILS no-go area is not protected. Another being altimeter settings being either QNH or QFE and the pilot must query to know which. Also something about meteorological interference with low ceilings and visibility to the ILS/GS signal. |

For years improving technology has assisted in transport safety. However, in doing so... ...sorry mum, I missed the alarm call |

Yep, unfortunately the one thing technology has never been able to do & never will, is improve the Mk1 GPS or Mk 1 Computer systems. |

That is truly tragic ...... Why is it tragic ?? She did not pull over to take the picture and post it; instead, she did it while she was driving. While Courtney was busy submitting her post, her Toyota Corolla went across the center median and into oncoming traffic. She shouldn't of been using her mobile end off , The amount of people that use their mobiles while in control of a vehicle supries this doesn't happen far more often . Might be the reason there's a law against using mobiles when driving in this country , shame to many tw~ts think they're above the law !! Life is what you make of it :-) When i'm good i'm very good , but when i'm bad i'm shi#eloads better ;-) In't I " buttercups " p.m.s.l at authoritie !!;-) |

That is truly tragic ...... That someone so educated would do something so incredibly stupid. I feel sorry for the driver of the truck. There are times when it doesn't matter how well you drive, or how aware you are of what is going on around you, that you still can't avoid a crash. Grant Darwin NT |

That is truly tragic ...... Texting, surfing, facebooking, and the like while driving should face the same penalty as drunk driving. |

Texting, surfing, facebooking, and the like while driving should face the same penalty as drunk driving. And enforced as vigorously. Here there are weekly and weekend drink driving blitzes by the police. If they went as hard on mobile phone usage they'd cover the costs of their overtime & probably pull the state budget back in the black. And even prevent a few crashes and the occasional death. I feel sorry for the driver of the truck. There are times when it doesn't matter how well you drive, or how aware you are of what is going on around you, that you still can't avoid a crash. I knew a couple of drivers who have stopped HGV driving due to 'not at fault' fatal accidents, one of which eventually took his own life. The same is true for train drivers, suicide by train is fairly common in some areas of the UK. Kevin |

The same is true for train drivers, suicide by train is fairly common in some areas of the UK. Back in the early 1990's I did some work to settle a dispute between British Rail and their client over the specification for some electronics for trains based at Seven Kings, on the Liverpool - Shenfield line. At that time they were getting about two "suicide by train" incidents a month. Found that out after we were forced into an unplanned overnight stay in Ilford due to one such incident. |
