Friday Evening Winter Weather Update -
Blizzard Warnings and Winter Storm Warnings are in place across the Texas Panhandle, parts of western Texas and the northern Permian Basin region beginning Saturday evening and lasting into early Monday morning. We're still on track for a potentially historic winter storm to impact the region with some areas seeing 1 to 2+ feet of snow with drifts between 5 to 10+ feet. Blizzard conditions will begin late Saturday night and last through Sunday. Gusts in excess of 50mph are likely along with whiteout conditions bringing visibility down to zero. Do not travel if you don't absolutely have to. Period. Please consider the lives and safety of the folks that will be called to come rescue you if you end up stranded...if they can even get to you.

Met office has just upped the warning to Severe, up to 80mm rain in most parts with over 100mm on the hills.

Not sure exactly where I am on that score, half way up a hill. But not much chance any flooding will affect my house, it's though the village and down the bottom of the valley where the River Ribble flows at most danger.

These are normal views of the brook as it goes through the village

Settle has problems I gather ....

Whalley, 5 miles (8km) away and Ribchester 9 miles (14km) down river have flooding. Affected people in Ribchester, told to shelter is available in Longridge, but reports say the road to Longridge is also under threat.

The railway has stopped running from Blackburn, with buses laid on. Not sure what that's to do, Clitheroe centre is on Red alert.

I'm informed, we are playing Monopoly after lunch.

Those showers here didn't pan out so it's a dry week ahead :( but still frosty nights. Good thing I picked all the lemons yesterday, got about 200 of them.

System moving north into northern Illinois overnight. It will start as snow, then sleet and freezing rain for the Monday morning rush, then rain as the temp gets into the mid 30s. Slowly getting colder all week.

Now, what's wrong with the L on this computer?

Sad new to report on yesterdays (2015-12-26) storm in the Dallas/Fort Worth TX metroplex:

11 dead from Saturday night North Texas tornado outbreak

UPDATED:DEC 27 2015 03:16PM CST
At least 11 people died and dozens were injured in strong tornadoes that swept through the Dallas area and caused substantial damage this weekend, while six people died in flooding in the Midwest.

It was the latest of a succession of powerful weather events across the country, from heavy snow in New Mexico, west Texas and the Oklahoma Panhandle to flash flooding in parts of the Plains and Midwest. Days of tumultuous weather have led to 36 deaths overall — those in Texas, plus five in Illinois, one in Missouri and 19 in the Southeast.

The full extent of damage along a nearly 40-mile stretch near Dallas was becoming clear Sunday: houses destroyed, vehicles mangled, power lines down and trees toppled. Heavy rain and wind hampered cleanup efforts on Sunday afternoon.
