Gerry's Hawaii MBv8 tasks with OCL v2004.3 look very similar to my R9 390x with Cat 15.7 OCL v1800.5. Both running normal AR WUs in about 6-7 min.

If the issue preventing you from running more than 1 task per GPU is in the OpenCL portion of the driver I don't believe the 16.2 Beta driver set will be any different. However the Vulkan Beta looks to have all components updated. So maybe it will work more than 1 task at a time per GPU.

I tested 2 WUs/GPU with 'default' settings - with Crimson 16.2.

After ~ 4 hours the 1st error.
The computation times vary a lot.
Same AR, some results after ~ 10 mins or ~ 1 hour.

Still not possible to let run 2+ WUs/GPU (at least on my FuryX's. :-(

With 1 WU/GPU the GPU Load go up and down, ~45% - ~99%.

The RAC could be much higher...

Maybe I will let the Vulkan Software a try...

I did some testing running 2 tasks at once on my 390x. Initially it looked promising, but after a few tasks completed the system went into hard lock. After a cold restart it happened again in about the same amount of time. So that looks like a no go for me.

While running 1 task the GPU usage in GPUz does look more like a square wave than my previous GPUs the average usage is still rather high. In my last test i believe the average usage was around 88%.

Crimson 16.2.1 Hotfix (Beta, .EXE from Feb/27) is available...

And, no, still not possible to let run 2 WUs/GPU - errors (at least on my FuryX's).

It's sad, annoying... IIRC, the FuryX is available since 2015/06, I let run them since ~ 5 months - and the driver is still buggy... - the RAC (performance) could be much higher...

the problem has been around since before that, and i don't think they're ever going to fix the problem

but i don't think the problem exists on linux, either

The problem exists on Linux as well.
I tested different apps with Mint.
Urs knows more about it.

Its not fully reproducible.
Sometimes the buffers simply brakes.

iv tried every single driver from AMD, i think since 14.1? (i think is earliest)..many many times...always do clean uninstall before changing drivers....anyway 14.4 i can run 3WU's no problem...every other driver crashs within a few minutes of doing more then 1.... 1 year iv been screwing with this ...no luck

For what its worth, my D700's in my Mac Pro (essentially 7970's) run multiple wu's just fine. I've tried up to 4 but settled on 2 because its bumps the RAC just a hair. Of course, being Apple, they may be using some other OpenCL implementation than AMD's...

Chris

Since Apple was the initial creator of OpenCL I wonder if they use some coding tricks they didn't share with the rest of the group. Then again it could just be AMD being AMD and not following the specification 100%.

i think it's an opencl 2.0 thing

16.2.1 with one wu feels faster than 14.4 with two wu, but i haven't been patient enough to verify that's the case. i'll probably go back and try it again

a 280x is tahiti, not hawaii

tahiti doesn't have the issues that hawaii does
