When I started the download my spy scan the download stopped. Says it's
spyware. Does anyone have any thought on the program? Any input will be
appreciated.

Depending on if you are getting the download from cpuid.com directly (which should be clean or a detection false positive of some sort), other utility download sites can sometimes bundle things like this with extra unwanted bits. So checking that you got it from the official site should probably clear that up.

This is the official site (good):
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

BAD is anything from download.cnet.com | cpu-z.en.softonic.com | (maybe) softpedia.com

Usually the first result in Google is the official site, for second "opinion" about the official link (of any program) check Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU-Z

Also scan anything suspicious on https://www.virustotal.com/en/

I've noticed that download.com (cnet) and some of the others just love to try to trick/force you into downloading their download manager, which often times has to actually be installed, which then bundles free stuff that nobody wants with it. I forget which site it is that is the worst about that, but one of them, there is a very obscure text-link below the big download button for "download directly," and either that same site, or a different one, up in the URL, you can change "nowrap=1" to =0 to disable the "wrapper."

when all else fails, getting stuff directly from the site that makes it is the best option.

Hmmm, maybe the old phrase 'caveat emptor' needs updating to the modern age. What's ancient tongue for 'dowloader of internet software'?

Or you found somebody which try to sell CPU-Z ??!

The other is lunatics. Did a search but the results left me hesitating. Don't want to have to reinstall os

I don't know of a single case when Lunatics Installer do something to the OS
Because it only puts some files in SETI@home directory (<BOINC_Data>\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\)

Lunatics Installer v0.43b

P.S.
You don't give any links.
That way no one knows where you go, what you see and what you try to get.
Hard to help ...

Message 1744677 - Posted: 25 Nov 2015, 6:36:52 UTC - in response to Message 1744649.

Two plus years ago I had a massive stroke. Now I don't see so well. I hit a y
but I wanted a t. Sorry. With the chance to get a virus or spam I waited. As
I read the web site about Lunatics and cpuz I couldn't find a listing of my vid card or my cpu. There was a warning about overclocking. I wanted to make sure
there would be no problems. If I fried my cpu or vid I couldn't afford to replace either one. Paying my doctor and hospital bills left me broke as I did not have health insurance. was between jobs. At my age it's hard to find new employment. The company I works for 24 yrs. folded.

Sorry if my omitting certain info causes any problem. I'm thankful for your
help.

If I fried my cpu or vid ...

To avoid this - control the temperature of both CPU and GPU by TThrottle <--Click

(and again: you don't need to buy/pay anything - all programs I/we list here are free.
If you found a site which wants payment (e.g. for "fast Download") - ask here (with link) as it's probably fraud.
Many people here know about many free utilities and will give you clean links to get them.
)

The costs for running seti are only the electricity consumed for crunching (albeit this can amount to substantial sums for some people) and internet provider fees. If you are on a capped plan you may want to keep an eye on the usage. It is possible to cap boinc too.

All software here is free, lunatics is entirely volunteers.

As BilBg said, if in doubt - ask. Don't worry about not being clear enough the first time, we know how to ask the right questions :)

We don't list vid cards or CPUs at lunatics, as minimum requirements are so low, any cpu and almost every gpu will do.
