How do control cpu and gpu work units? I have noticed some chats referring
to this.

I enjoy reading this forum.

Looking at your computer I would suggest something like this for you app_config.xml file.

<app_config>

<app>
<name>setiathome_v7</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.4</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.4</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>astropulse_v7</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.6</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.4</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

</app_config>

That will run 1 AP task plus 1 MB task
Or, 2 MB tasks at a time.

I all ready run that many. What I would like to do is reduce the number
of cpu tasks in cue and increase the number of gpu. Also would like to get
more aps.

But I thank you for your input.

Task are limited to 100 for the CPU no matter how many cores it has, then 100 work units for each GPU that you have.

APs are distributed first whenever new tapes are placed in the splitters. They tend to be in high demand so they usually run out first.

You can change your preferences to accept only APs when they are being "split" but that is not a guarantee that you will get more than anyone else.

There really isn't a way to say to limit how many go to your CPU other than to not crunch on it at all.

Unless you are want to limit the number crunching at any one time on the chip? Example, say you have a 8 core chip and only want to crunch 2 work units instead of 7.

If that is the case, lets us know. As that would require a modification of the app_config.xml

Firebyrdman you control the amount of units the CPU uses in the Bionic client .

You can only do 1 unit per CPU core full stop .

Click Option Tab , Computing Preferences on the page that open go to in 7.6.9 version (slightly different in older versions) Computing tab , then where it says usage limits

use at most ??% of the CPU's

to work that out just

100 / number of cores = %

eg: For 4 cored CPU

100% = 4
75% = 3
50% = 2
25% = 1

To change the same setting in older Bionic clients click

Tools tab then Computer preferences when window opens click Processor usage tab and look for on multiprocessor systems use at most ??% of the Processor and use the above formula

As for doing more than 1 unit on your GPU to need to load a program called Lunatics and once you do that you can change a file called appinf.xml witch will allow you to do more than one unit on your GPU below is a link one of the sites you can download it

http://www.arkayn.us/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl

Once you have downloaded it and installed it you can go to this thread where at the start of the tread I have put up a explanation on how to change the appinf.xml file .

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=78379&postid=1737843#1737843

Although the thread is not for your Nvida card the instructions are the same for both types of cards ATI and Nvida and I have not herd any problems with Nvida using the appinf.xml setting weather a cmdline is better well I leave that for you to try as one system can have different outcomes to another simular system and will leave the cmdline option for tweeking , to others to explain however the cmdline option only apply's to doing one units at a time

Thanks all. I'll have to think about it for a while. I don't want to gum up the works on my unit. I did down load lunatics but have not installed.

Thanks for the quick replies.
