My graphics card seems to crunch WU's faster then anticipated by BOINC. This has now resulted in 100 CPU tasks waiting in my queue and no work for my GPU. Temp solution is to abort some of the CPU tasks in the quque and hope that the next work fetch will get me some GPU tasks. However, I do not like to abort WU's. I hope there is a way I can make BOINC request work for my GPU only, but is it possible and how? ChrisD |

Aborting tasks on the CPU will not help you get tasks on the GPU. If this is a newly installed GPU then it will take BOINC a few days to work out its actual processing speed and then you will get up to 100 tasks in the GPU part of the queue. One thing that may help is making sure that the GPU is allowed to process most of the time. Check that the GPU is set to "Use GPU when computer is in use" in the BOINC options - In "advanced view" select tools, computing preferences, then check the box next to "use GPU....." In your Seti@home preference setting on your account page, select the location where the laptop is set to and edit the preference so that the "use CPU" is unchecked. That will prevent any work from being downloaded for the CPU. The choice is yours. GPU generally are faster than CPU. But there are some type of work that can only be done on the CPU. I crunch on both but you decide how Seti uses your machine. |

Rob & Zalster. Thank You for Your suggestions. I think I will try removing the tickmark for 'use CPU' fo a while, and carefully watch my cache to see when the excess number of cpu tasks are consumed. :) I am indeed using the CPU, but this machine is 4 cores only, this means that 100 CPU tasks will take me over 4 Days to crunsh. My GPU will gobble its way through 100 WU's in just 7 Hours :) Happy Crunching :) ChrisD |

Four days isn't that long when one considers that the tapes being processed just now were collected about 4 years ago and any signal contained in them has traveled for many amny years before being intercepted... I think I will try removing the tickmark for 'use CPU' fo a while, and carefully watch my cache to see when the excess number of cpu tasks are consumed. :) 'use CPU' have no effect on how much tasks you get for GPU i.e. if you have less tasks for CPU this doesn't mean BOINC will get more for GPU What are your 2 Settings for "days of work" and where you set them? Probably you want/need to set something like 0.1 + 5 days of work When both CPU and GPU are at 100 "In progress" tasks - that is the max you can get from SETI@home  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |
