Does anyone know what is going on over at the CPDN site? Their servers have been down now for going on 3 days now.

A good place to look in situations like this is:

News on Project Outages

Not only can you see if someone else has reported the outage already (they have), but you can also see if anybody has been in touch with the project administration team and heard any feedback (they've done that too).

On the Oxford University site there is a mention of CPDN but it is barred out on Read More.

Spear-heading the new Oxford University’s approach to stakeholder engagement is climateprediction.net. This exciting project, launched in 2002, uses spare computer capacity on people’s home computers to run climate models. Since the start of the project, there have been nearly 130 million climate years calculates, a figure that would prove too costly and time consuming using conventional methods.

I have a climate model running for 437 hours on this Linux host and trying to upload "trickles" to the CPDN server with no avail. At least they could tell me what to do with it. Abort?

Considering their deadlines no need to do anything drastic. Once they get their server sorted out it will report and you will get credit.

I hope so too. Lately they had work only for Linux hosts and volunteers were complaining.I had suggested on a message board to go the CERN way and use Virtual Machines, but I don't know if they have the manpower of CERN. I am running 4 CERN projects on a Windows 10 PC with plenty of RAM and disk space (20 GB and 2 TB).

Tullio, don’t abort. The CPDN servers at Oxford have been down since last Friday due to some mishap in the server room at OeRC. It is being fixed. All trickles are stalled until it is up and running again. Zip files for hadam3p_anz are going through alright. (except for 13.zip). All zip files for hadam3p_pnw , hadam3p_eu and hadam3p_afr are backing up.

Just checked the Home page.

CPDN Offline

Update 23rd October 2015:

The CPDN project has been experiencing issues with the backend services. We are working to return services as soon as possible and get the project back up to full functionality. We apologise for this extended outage.

A slight change in the responsiveness of the CPDN site. When I click the “Accounts”, “Help Desk”, “User Forum”, or “Team” button I not get the message :

“Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /cpdnboinc/team_display.php on this server.

Apache Server at climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk Port 80”

Past attempts to access these pages have just resulted in a no connection time out message from the browser. So there does seem to be some life there, we are just not being let in yet.

All servers are green except one. Upload servers are running but probably they have a huge backlog of "trickles".

From what I read on their message board, it sounds like they currently are(only) running a Linux project. No windows support.

I told them to use Virtual Box like CERN but they don't want to listen.

I have ended a 738 hour task on this Linux host, but the two final zip files are still trying to upload since every outage of the servers causes a huge backlog. CPDN uses the "trickles" mechanism by which partial solutions are reported during the working of the task. CPDN deadlines are very extended.

The CPDN beta site is still deader than a doornail. I still have 2 entire WAH results stuck in the transfer tab of one of my machines, all 26 zip files.
