It seems that NVidia is changing the way to get driver updates, that resemble a lot of what M$S is doing with Win10 and their forced updates. I don't like it as I don't use my 750TIs to play games with and forcing me to add software I don't want or need. I don't particularly like AMD/ATI, but I may have to change teams if it gets too ridiculous.

BTW, AMD is losing money http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-releases-2015-third-quarter-results.html, and is selling off some of its' manufacturing fabs in a joint venture http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-sells-majority-back-end-manufacturing-fabs-in-a-joint-venture.html.

Greetings,

That's about the suckiest thing they could. I uninstalled GeForce Experience because it would not do what it was supposed to do. It would sit forever 'downloading' the latest driver while nothing was downloading. It would sit like this for 30 to 45 minutes before I got tired of waiting. I tried this about 4 or 5 times before I gave up and downloaded it and installed it myself. That was when I uninstalled Experience and told the installer not to install it again.

I haven't spent any time trying to figure out what Linux Mint is using as a driver. Upon it's installation it has my display set to max resolution quite unlike Window$ that has it set at a ridiculously low resolution. Linux is looking so much more and more like the OS to go to. :)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

Since I do not install them all that often anymore, it will not really affect me.

You will still be able to download the latest drivers on your own request directly from the update site. Only if you run the Nvidia Experience app will it force automatic updates. You can stand pat on whatever level of driver you want, just don't install the Experience app. Since I don't game, I just use the Custom install and only install the GPU and the audio driver.

Same here. Don't need the 'Experience'...LOL.
I don't even need the audio drivers on my crunch only rigs, but if you don't load them, Winders goes looking for them on every reboot.

My understanding from listening to the tech shows on You Tube, is if you want the latest and greatest (buggy) driver you need to use Nvidia Experience.. However normal users will get an update once every quarter.. So 4 times a year Nvidia will release a solid and tested driver.. Users of Nvidia experience will do the testing for us and give Nvidia an email address for the trouble:)

Unless your a bleeding edge, max fps, hard core, die if you don't have 120hz gamer, the latest and greatest drivers are pretty useless.. Being a cruncher first and gamer second, I rarely update. Once I find a driver that's Seti friendly and performs well on MB and AP benchmarks I won't change it unless a problem arises.

NVIDIA used to have 3-4 month gaps between drivers, so not much change :P

Greetings,

What is the current NVIDIA driver that is NOT through GeForce Experience or Beta? I do not use GeForce Experience. Does "WHQL" (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) signify a non-beta version?

An inquiring mind would like to know. ;)

I currently have v355.98.

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

You don't need the latest or greatest update.

If the current driver is working for you, stick with it.

Most NV updates are usually for new game releases.

Unless the guys from lunatics come out and say there is a specific reason to update, I'd just stick with what works.

Yes, that's the usual interpretation. But non-Beta isn't necessarily the same as bug-free: sometimes bugs still pass WHQL certification.

Greetings,

@ Richard and Zalster: Thanks guys. I will keep the current version I have. I guess Beta should be followed by Gamma. Oh wait, Gamma does follow Beta. ;)

Keep on BOINCing...! :)

Having done WHQL driver certification myself. A driver that is certified doesn't really carry much weight for me personally. In some situations no actually certification testing needs to be done to get a signed driver.

Also as you say a certified driver doesn't mean a lack of errors. Especially in how we tend to use graphics drivers. I don't believe there are any OpenCL or CUDA specific test. I think there were some basic OpenGL tests, but they have been removing required tests over the past few years. So even that may no longer exist.
