I graduated from the University of Louisville in 1990, and that has always been my team of choice in college hoops. U of L is a very successful basketball program, but unfortunately the coach, Rick Pitino, is facing some issues connected to a former assistant who supposedly was involved in call-girl parties. This will probably go from bad to worse as the NCAA investigates, and I have a feeling Pitino may need to retire if the activity is true. Collegiate sports are great for the schools, but they can also be terrible when a scandal comes to light. I hope that U of L gets things straightened out very soon.

That being said, go Cards!

Who is your favorite team, and how do you think they'll do this year?

U of L lost it's intrastate game to Uk yesterday.

Any favorite team rivalries?

One daughter went to UNC, the oldest went to Duke.

And the one that went to Duke her hubby works at UNC.

UNC vs Duke

That's, imo, the biggest rivalry in the country, with two of the consistently greatest teams in basketball.

I think the smaller gyms actually intensify the crowd effect, too.

Due to still undisclosed findings with the NCAA investigation, U of L has decided to self-sanction itself and not play in any tournaments this year. This is very unfair to current players who were not on the team at the time of the alleged infractions and are completely innocent. Very sad.

I see the coach didn't get the deciding vote.

Apparently. The Director of the Athletic program supposedly carried out the decision to ban the current team from tournament play, and the University President said ok, and then the coach was informed.

I will root for Villanova. Former Big East rival of Syracuse.
I will also root for the Women of Syracuse to beat UConn.

I also agree with Gordan that the players should not be punished. Punish the school by fines and lost scholarships. But let the players compete.

North Carolina hit a double-clutch 3-pointer to tie the game with 4.7 seconds remaining. Villanova answered with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to win the game.
