Joaquin is a dilly of a storm. 130mph sustained winds. It is supposed to start heading northeast today and away from Florida and the rest of the east coast. Here's hoping the forecasters got it right.

Ship with 33 aboard missing as Hurricane Joaquin slams Bahamas.
The U.S. Coast Guard was searching for a missing container ship with 33 crewmembers aboard Friday as a slow-moving Hurricane Joaquin continued to batter the Bahamas.
The 735-foot ship called El Faro was caught in the Category 4 storm Thursday, when it lost propulsion and began listing at 15 degrees near Crooked Island in the Bahamas, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

We will see more of this when global warming starts to build up...

Yesterday we had orange clouds in the sky in the sunset.
Now thats is an indication for high winds to us sailors.
So now we have high winds today here as well!

Ahoy sailors.
125 mph?
Now thats is a very strange to read wind speeds.
There is a difference between miles and nautical miles.
Whatever. 125 mph is 35 meters per second.
That's what I call a real hurricane.
Never been to that...

I remember this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Gudrun
Sustained wind speeds of 126 km/h (78 mph) with wind gusts of 165 km/h (103 mph) were measured in Hanstholm, Denmark – the same strength as a Category 1 hurricane. At least 24 people died in the storm.
My "grand son" Lukas was born that day:)

Charleston, South Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Joaquin!
Even though Hurricane Joaquin is tracking away from the United States, the torrential rainfall developed due to a combination of tropical moisture and a non-tropical system.
