First post, so sorry if asked before, I just joined today.

I put together a low price PC that I plan to run 24/7 just to run seti.
It's an AMD A6-7400K, and set up went smoothly. It's crunching away now, running 3 work units. (2 CPU and 1 GPU).

I have an R7 240 card that I'm not using. If I put it in, would I be better to leave it as a lone card, or Crossfire it with the APU? I've checked, and the R7 can Crossfire with the APU's R5.

Thanks.

Run separate is generally better than linking using Crossfire (for AMD GPUs) OR SLI (for Nvidia GPUs).

Thanks.
In that case, I may have a better card I could use. It's not Crossfire compatible with the APU, but it's more powerful than the R7 240 I was going to use.
It's a Radeon 7750.

If I plug that in, will it disable my onboard GPU?
Is there anything I need to do to use both of them?

Thanks for your help.

Generally the internal GPU will not be disabled by installing an external one, but this very dependent on the motherboard in question.

Thanks for your help, I'm making progress. But if I could impose on you for one more question...

I now have both GPU's showing in system properties, but BOINC is only using the onboard one.

In the event log it says.....
OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0 (ignored by config) CapeVerde
OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 1: Spectre

So it seems it's ignoring the 7750 card (CapeVerde).

Could you explain how I tell it to use both?

Thanks again for your help.

Actually I think I've fixed it.

The 7750 is now being used, although my computer stat page now says I have 2 Spectre GPU's, rather than 1 Spectre and 1 CapeVerde.
But at least it's working.

Now you've got both working let it stabilise for a few days before trying anything else as sometimes problems don't show up at first.

my computer stat page now says I have 2 Spectre GPU's, rather than 1 Spectre and 1 CapeVerde.

That is "normal" glitch of the page.

BOINC starts tasks for both and the app detects them properly:

device 0 (Capeverde)

device 1 (Spectre)

device 0 and then 1
