well, if we don't use a spread spectrum in ALL OUR communication, why would they? :/ here is some interesting articles: 1. http://www.theguardian.com/science/2010/jan/27/aliens-cant-hear-us-astronomer 2. http://zidbits.com/2011/07/how-far-have-radio-signals-traveled-from-earth/ also, here is text about subject: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-edward-snowden-got-wrong-about-eavesdropping-on-aliens/ quote: "We're not looking for the message," said Seth Shostak, director of the SETI Institute's Center for SETI Research. "We're looking for the signal that tells us that somebody has a transmitter." also, China effort: http://www.gizmag.com/five-hundred-meter-aperture-spherical-radio-telescope/18930/ ;) non-profit org. also, China effort: That's actually part of the reason I signed on to SETI@home. When I heard about the Breakthrough projects I got to wondering "why now?", and then stumbled across an article about the Chinese FAST telescope being on track to get finished next year and how much interest they have in the big question. It might not be an official race to find an answer, but it is a race and that makes it easier to believe there's a finish line somewhere. |
